Standalone wave model/ coupled with FLOW

Hello Delft3D Community! I would like to ask if anybody had tried wave modeling using the recent source code tagged 6118 with Delft3D GUI 4.01.01.rc.03? I'm developing a wave model coupled with flow. However, in the picture shown below, the flow computation does not even progress. I was waiting for more than 30 mins to see some computation, whether it will continue with the wave iteration but it did not.

I tried running the example and it completed its computation, but in my model it does not. I also did what the FAQ suggests, by clearing the working directory leaving the model inputs only.

And I also did a standalone computation, wherein I run first my FLOW with the comm file and use it for my *.mwf file computation. Again, it did not progress.

I hope somebody would give an insight with the wave modeling in standalone or coupled with flow. Many thanks in advance!

Warm Regards,
Jonathan

Hi,
Please have a good look at the tri-diag file or otherwise the output file of SWAN for relevant warnings or errors.

You can also alter the start time of coupling (communication file in FLOW) in order to first let your FLOW simulation run for say 10 min after which WAVE should start. Often this helps in locating the problem...

HI Arjen,

Thanks for the reply! Indeed, the flow started to run upon adjusting the COM start time on a later date. There are no SWAN file generated on my computer (I'm using Delft3D 4.01.01.rc.03 on Windows 10, 64 bit). Then I tried using it in my laptop (Winows 7 with older source code tag and GUI) the SWAN file states that

ERROR: SWAN file PRINT contains ERRORS

I also checked on the PRINT file, and it has a message saying a lot about the following:

** Error : Grid angle <0 or >180 degrees
** Error : 3 comp. grid points on one line

Hello, Arjen.

I think I saw my problem. I saw that the grid from the visualization area from flow and wave are not the same. I just loaded the grid file of FLOW to the WAVE module. Would you know what could be causing this?

Hi,
Could you upload the grids as well so i can have a look in RGFGRID. It seems that SWAN does not accept your wave grid as some grid cells are either too small or not sufficiently orthogonal.

Hi, Arjen.

Here's the grid file I'm using. I find it a bit odd when I import the grid in WAVE module. If the raw grids from spline are imported to the WAVE GUI, they are ok, but if I try to delete the excess grids, it becomes like the one I showed you earlier.

Hi, Jonathan,

I have the same situation with you but I don't know how to fix the error. Have you solved it now?

Best,

Bing

Hi Bing Zhao,

There's a thread I saw relating to our problem. Qinghua was able to solve it. Here's the link to his answer: https://oss.deltares.nl/web/delft3d/coast-/-estuary/-/message_boards/view_message/1069296/maximized#_19_message_1077039

You have to check the grid file. If the missing value is 999.00 or similar, just replace it with Missing Value = 0.00000000000000000E+02. The same with the rest of the grid file.

As far as I could tell, the grids used for flow and wave visualization octordle were not identical. Flow's grid file has been imported into WAVE. Do you have any idea what might be triggering this?
