Coast / Estuary

Coastal systems are among the most dynamic physical systems on earth and are subject to a large variety of forces. The morphodynamic changes occurring to coastlines worldwide are of great interest and importance. These changes occur as a result of the erosion of sediments, its subsequent transport as bed load or suspended load, and eventual deposition.

Estuaries are partly enclosed water bodies that have an open connection to the coast. Estuaries generally have one or more branching channels, intertidal mudflats and/or salt marshes. Intertidal areas are of high ecological importance and trap sediments (sands, silts, clays and organic matter).
Within the Delft3D modelling package a large variation of coastal and estuarine physical and chemical processes can be simulated. These include waves, tidal propagation, wind- or wave-induced water level setup, flow induced by salinity or temperature gradients, sand and mud transport, water quality and changing bathymetry (morphology). Delft3D can also be used operationally e.g. storm, surge and algal bloom forecasting.

On this discussion page you can post questions, research discussions or just share your experience about modelling coastal and/or estuarine systems with Delft3D FM.

I'm trying to compile the tag version(5.01.00.2163) of the code in my computer, on x32 Release mode.
The computer system is Windows 8.1, and I'm trying to compile using VS 2010 and Intel visual fortran XE2011 (12.0).
There are many errors like this "87>D:\5.01.00.2163_copy\5.01.00.2163\src\utils_lgpl\constants\packages\mathconsts\mathconsts.vfproj(2,1): error MSB4075: The project file "D:\5.01.00.2163_copy\5.01.00.2163\src\utils_lgpl\constants\packages\mathconsts\mathconsts.vfproj" must be opened in the Visual Studio IDE and converted to the latest version before it can be built by MSBuild." when I biult the code.
But the procedure worked well when I run "run_flow2d3d" in \5.01.00.2163\examples\01_standard. Then I run convert_win32_to_old_directory_structure_w32 and copied the w32 to C:\Delft3D\w32. Next, I tried to run f34_demo using Deft3d GUI and it worked well also.
But I can not figure it out. Could anyone offer any advice? Does that mean Delft3d GUI can also work well even though there are many errors when the code is
biuld?

Best regards,
Hi Chunping Ren,

Please use a recent version, preferably the latest tagged version, currently https://svn.oss.deltares.nl/repos/delft3d/tags/7426/. This version contains a Python script that helps preparing the project files for your system, see this site. This will solve the errors you ran into.

Please use the x64 release mode.

Your system is different than used at Deltares. But when you solve the configuration issues and are able to compile the source code, then you can indeed use the resulting binaries to do computations.

Regards,

Adri
