Coast / Estuary

Coastal systems are among the most dynamic physical systems on earth and are subject to a large variety of forces. The morphodynamic changes occurring to coastlines worldwide are of great interest and importance. These changes occur as a result of the erosion of sediments, its subsequent transport as bed load or suspended load, and eventual deposition.
Estuaries are partly enclosed water bodies that have an open connection to the coast. Estuaries generally have one or more branching channels, intertidal mudflats and/or salt marshes. Intertidal areas are of high ecological importance and trap sediments (sands, silts, clays and organic matter).
Within the Delft3D modelling package a large variation of coastal and estuarine physical and chemical processes can be simulated. These include waves, tidal propagation, wind- or wave-induced water level setup, flow induced by salinity or temperature gradients, sand and mud transport, water quality and changing bathymetry (morphology). Delft3D can also be used operationally e.g. storm, surge and algal bloom forecasting.
On this discussion page you can post questions, research discussions or just share your experience about modelling coastal and/or estuarine systems with Delft3D FM.

Received 64 bit installer for 32 bit pc
windows 64-bit mcr installation installation file problems 32-bit system delft3d-gui installation ds flex

Hi! I'm a new Delft3d user, and I'm having problems to install the program in my computer. I received this 2 folders with the following files after filling the GUI request form:

folder 1: Delft3D GUI Delft3D 4.02.03 Windows for source code users/
folder: installers/

folder 2: Previous Open Source GUIs/

I followed the instructions of the manual, the DS_FLEX installation went fine, then the MCR couldn't install because it was for 64 bit so I went on the Previous Open Source GUIs folder, and downloaded the MCR for 32 bit so then the installation went fine too, but the last thing I need to install it's the delft3d_x64_engine_via_oss.msi but when I double click it an error appears indicating the system characteristics don't match the .exe, now I couldn't find another file like that on the Previous Open Source GUIs folder for 32 bit. I don't know if I did something wrong when I asked for my license because I didn't ask for a 64 bit installer, in fact the request form doesn't have a field to indicate your pc system characteristics. Also, in the manual it says that I should have received (x86) . exe that would work for 32 bit system but that's not what I received.

I hope you can help me with this, maybe it's a silly question with an easy solution but I would really appreciate all your suggestions.

Thank you!

Hi Esther,

On our FTP-site, inside folder "Previous Open Source GUIs", I added the folder "Delft3D_4.01.00_win32". This is the latest fully 32bit Delft3D-GUI version. All higher versions contain 64bit parts.

You still have to download the source code to compile the engines yourself and to add them to the GUI. Please follow the instructions on this page. Compilation in 32bit still works.

If you don't want to compile the source code yourself, you can buy a service package. When you have that, you will get binary versions of the kernels, compiled and fully tested by Deltares. Please check this site. In your communication with Deltares, please state clearly that you want the 32bit version. As a result, you will receive a set of binaries created/tested in 2015; all newer versions are 64bit.

Hi Wafaa,

Please do this step by step:
1. Download the source code, compile it, run it
2. Download the GUI, prepare your computation with it, run i

What do you mean with "I'm stuck"? What doesn 't work? What problem do you have? Is it related to the first step above or the second step?
