are there the possibility to consider "capillary rise"?
Capillary rise means that the recharge is negative. How iMOD deal with it?

Hi Angela,

You can use several concept and it depends on what you want to achieve.

  1. You can compute the net recharge (positive and/or negative) beforehand yourself and use the RCH package to include this to the model, it is allowed to fill in a RCH package with positive and negative values;
  2. You can use the EVT package to simulate evapotranspiration which in fact assumes some capillary rise as it will extract reduced groundwater for the evaporation at specific depths;
  3. You can use the MetaSWAP unsaturated zone package supported by iMOD and developed by Alterra - University of Wageningen which is a meta-model of the SWAP concept and uses predefined moisture-soil-content profiles from which it extracts soilwater;
  4. You can use the MODFLOW2005 unsaturated zone package UZF that simulates moisture-content movement through the unsaturated zone, however, it does not take into account capillary rise other than via the EVTpackage (see point 2). However, it simulates delay of groundwater recharge, which the conventional combination of RCH and/or EVT does not do.
