I came to an obviously wrong results when simulating waves using
SWAN. It's a course domain and fine domain coupled simulation. When I
uncheck the diffraction effect, everything seems all right (pls see
the figure 1&2 attached). However when the diffraction is taken
into account, the result for the fine domain is zero wave height(pls
see the attached figure 4), no waves, which is not reasonable. Please
note that the results for the course domain is OK (pls see the
attched figure 3).

Can you kindly give me some advice? These figures are numbered in a
sequential manner. The log file is also attached. let me know if you
would like more information about.
Peng Dai2019-06-30T05:02:52ZRE: Domain DecompositionPeng Daihttps://oss.deltares.nl/c/message_boards/find_message?p_l_id=1806746&messageId=19234792018-08-17T11:18:28Z2018-08-17T11:18:28Z
Dear Bert:

You mentioned that "If you're trying to split a domain into
multiple domains for performance reasons, you may try to use the
recently added MPI option.".

Do you mean MPI is used to increase only the computational efficiency
? If I want have detailed hydrodynamic information for a particular
region within my domain, I should refer to the domain decomposition
technique to refine the grid?

The momentum equation uses the layer horizontal velocity, i.e. lowercase u and v (eq. 9.7 & eq. 9.8). I am a bit wondering how this set of equation can be coupled (see the snapshot below) since they use different velocities. There may be some tricks that I have not get yet. Can any one specify that?

Moreover, the continuity equation (eq. 9.3) is expressed in terms of depth-averaged velocity. However, the vertical velocity in the sigma-coordinate system is computed from the eq. 9.9 which is again a continuity equation but uses layer horizontal velocity.
