Community Strategy Board meeting

On 10 September 2019, the 15th Community Strategy Board meeting took place. Due to organisational changes within the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) in Australia, Jeff Perkins and Bruce Quig changed position and passed their role to Adam Smith. "The Australian Bureau of Meteorology relies on Delft-FEWS to provide operational flood forecasts and warnings for the Australian public and emergency management" according to Adam Smith. "As the National Manager of Flood, Tsunami and Storm Surge at the Bureau, the strategic developments of Delft-FEWS are an important part of leading our service development. I'm looking forward to contributing further to these strategic discussions and representing the growing Australian Delft-FEWS user community."

The main topic of the meeting was a discussion on the Delft-FEWS 2025 vision. As Nadine Slootjes, chair of the CSB, explains: "The first half of this year, we organised sessions during the different Delft-FEWS User Days about the future of Delft-FEWS. We consulted our users on how they think Delft-FEWS should look like in 2025 and what important developments should be realised in order to achieve that. With this input we've developed a first framework of the Delft-FEWS 2025 vision."

During this CSB-meeting, the main points of discussion were about the future types of users of Delft-FEWS, the unique selling points of Delft-FEWS and financing options of new developments. An initial and common response of the CSB was to arrange this structural financing through the existing Support & Maintenance contracts.

Besides that, the discussed version of the Delft-FEWS 2025 vision also covers topics like a high quality software delivery process with a continuous attention to security aspects, performance and usability of Delft-FEWS.
