Introducing Niko Wanders, keynote speaker at the Dutch Delft-FEWS User Day 2023

The Delft-FEWS community of the Netherlands and Belgium, will meet up for the Delft-FEWS User Day on 6 June at Deltares in Delft. We are happy to announce the keynote address will be delivered by Niko Wanders, Assistant Professor Hydrological Extremes at Utrecht University and visiting research collaborator at Princeton University. He will share his thoughts on drought in the Netherlands and the boundaries of our water system.

 

Niko’s work focuses on extreme hydrological situations in the context of their societal impact and climate change. Niko is an expert on the topic of hydrological droughts, flood forecasting, hyper-resolution modelling, satellite data assimilation and seasonal forecasting. And he received the EGU Arne Richter Award for Outstanding Early Career Scientists for his research on climate change and its impacts on hydrology in 2022.

In addition to his contribution to science, Niko is a keen science communicator and takes part in the public debate, on topics related to drought and climate change. More information on the Delft-FEWS User Days, including the program and registration, can be found here.
