Delft-FEWS Dutch User Days 2021

Delft-FEWS Dutch User Days 2021

The annual Delft-FEWS User Days for the Dutch speaking community was organized in two online events hosted by Bas Stengs and Olav van Duin on the 15th and the 22nd of June. This years' theme was ‘The new (way of working with) Delft-FEWS’. Both national and international speakers presented their work to the Dutch speaking Delft-FEWS community. The full program and all presentations can be found at the events page

Both events started off with an inspiring talk from a keynote speaker. Simone van Schijndel (VanderSat) and Max Radermacher (Obscape) talked about how remote sensing data could be used for operational decision making. Furthermore, speakers from various organizations presented their work and shared their experiences with the community, for example the presentations from Mobile Water Management, Seqwater and Waterschap Vallei en Veluwe. The latest Delft-FEWS developments along with the Delft-FEWS vision 2025 were also presented by various Deltares colleagues. During the breaks the community was able to connect in an online environment where the Deltares DeltaPlaza was mimicked to facilitate social talks. Also during the interactive sessions, facilitated by among others Roger de Crook (Hoogheemraadschap de Stichtse Rijnlanden), the community jointly brainstormed on data handling using Delft-FEWS.

At the end of the events, the traditional group picture was taken. After that, we voted on how to split the funds normally used for the physical mementos between three charitable organizations. As a result of this 27% was donated to Wetlands international for biodiverse and productive wetlands, 32% was donated to Water for Life for access to clean water and sanitation and 41% was donated to the Noordzee foundation for a clean and healthy North Sea.

We’re happy to announce that the international Delft-FEWS Users Days are already in preparation. The event will be planned in the November, later this year.
