null Canadian Delft-FEWS User Day 2022

Canadian Delft-FEWS User Day 2022

On June 9th a Canadian Delft-FEWS User Day took place in Canmore, Alberta. In recent years many Canadian agencies, companies and researchers have adopted the Delft-FEWS platform for their flood and inflow forecasting, reservoir management and research, and it was about time they would be able to meet in person.

The User Day was organized as a side event to the National Conference of the Canadian Water Resources Association (CWRA), which offered a great opportunity for the Canadian water community to meet and share knowledge, experiences and ideas. The User Day was full with presentations about Canadian “cold-region hydrology” models, river ice forecasting, introductions to new applications and a discussion on joint exploration of topics of interest for all Canadian Delft-FEWS users.

As often happens with these kind of events, the energy of the conversations led to initiatives to (further) jointly explore several topics:

  • Forecast verification

  • Remote sensing of river ice and automatic classification

  • Accessing public data sources

  • Data dissemination via reports and webservices

These topics will be explored further in small working groups. You will certainly hear more from the Canadian User Community in the coming year!
