Delft-FEWS Web OC 1.0 released!

Over the past several years, we have noticed an increase in demand for a web interface to Delft-FEWS, both in the FEWS community and at Deltares. This need, coupled with the broader industry trend towards development of web-based user interfaces, led to the inclusion of a Delft-FEWS Operator Client (“Web OC”) in the Delft-FEWS Vision 2025.

A web-based interface for Delft-FEWS provides several benefits:
•    Enhanced mobility: quick access through a web browser, including mobile devices.
•    Improved modularity: integrates into existing online environments.
•    Greater flexibility: allows for additional customization to meet user needs.
•    Improved performance and security: development of a secure and high-performance Web OC contributes to the overall improvement in the performance and security of the Delft-FEWS web services.
•    Technological advancements: benefits from the latest technological developments and third-party functionalities available for the web.

In 2021, initial strides were made to define use-cases together with the Delft-FEWS community, addressing aspects such as architecture, development processes, support, and maintenance. The past two years were dedicated to defining and technically implementing a Minimum Viable Product.

We are pleased to announce that the culmination of our efforts over the past several years allows us to start 2024 with the release of Web OC version 1.0. This Web OC release requires a Delft-FEWS 2023.02 back-end. Please ask FEWS Product Management / Deltares Project Lead for the Web OC software.

The Web OC, now part of the Delft-FEWS software suite, currently has basic functionality for data visualization and is ready for further development based on the preferences and needs of the Delft-FEWS community. The Web OC and Desktop OC will be developed and used in parallel for the foreseeable future.

We look forward to further developing Delft-FEWS and its Web OC together with you over the coming years!

More information about the Web OC, such as development plans, architecture, licenses, and current functionality, are available on the Web OC Documentation page.
