First Delft-FEWS 2018.02 implementations are up and running
18 March 2019
The Delft-FEWS 2018.02 stable release is in its final stage of completion and the first implementations are up and running. This version has been deployed in several international (pilot) projects or on acceptance servers and there are more to come on a very short notice. As this news item is being written, implementations of 2018.02 are running on virtual machines, Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS), some which have been deployed using Docker and Kubernetes.
The focus of the new Delft-FEWS 2018.02 stable version is on the complete renewed Admin Interface (with its own web service) and a new approach of distributing, registering and operating of Forecasting Shell Servers (FSS). Currently, FSSs are organized around FSS-groups which gives you a lot of flexibility in the set-up and enables scalability of computational power. FSSs can be easily switched on (awakened) or the number of FSS instances can be extended by initiating one or more FSSs from scratch. Automatically all required model related files (packed in ModuleDataSets) will be extracted in order to be ready to run.
This version of Delft-FEWS is the final version with 'roadmap functionalities paid by community funding' inside. Around 90% of the planned features have been implemented. The remaining features will be on hold for now or will be implemented in (on-going) projects, hopefully in 2019. A number of the remaining items have been included in proposals and/or are (partially) rewarded already.
It is not all roadmap related features which are inside the 2018.02. There is a substantial number of very interesting new features you can try soon yourself. The overall look of the Delft-FEWS Explorer has been adjusted to the (flat) look of Windows 10. In several displays new features have been added, like horizontal color-coded bars (TimeSeries Display), a thumbnail overview showing all ensemble members (spatial display) and the option to configure a enumeration which will be set sequentially when the user clicks an object in the Schematic Status Display. Also the Web Browser Display has been completely renewed with underlying technology (Chromium based). Around 10 data import routines have been added or improved, adapters have been upgraded and a lot of small improvements are available.
We are increasing the speed of deploying 2018.02 (and/or supporting clients and consultants worldwide to get there) in the next weeks and months. Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions about this.
