German, Austrian and Swiss Delft-FEWS users meet in Vienna

On 8 and 9 September, the second regional Delft-FEWS user meeting for Germany, Austria and Switzerland took place in Vienna, Austria. The meeting was organized by Hydrotec, Aachen, and Deltares and hosted by Verbund Trading GmbH at their company head quarter in the ancient heart of Vienna. Thanks to Ulrich Haberl and Simon Frey.

From Deltares Nadine Slootjes, Maarten Smoorenburg and Jorn Baayen attended the meeting and gave deep insight into the Delft-FEWS Roadmap 2020 developments, probabilistic forecasting, ensembles and into model predictive control.

The first day was mainly used for getting known to each other, to share information and ideas, to exchange experience as Delft-FEWS users and to lively discus the presentations. Oliver Buchholz introduced Hydrotec's work and projects as a Delft-FEWS intermediary, Ulrich Haberl of Verbund presented PROVIS a complex Delft-FEWS system for predicting river run off to the numerous power plants. Gunter Hiermann of Verbund IT department explained their technical security approach resulting in an additional fail over system.

On the second day Jorn Baayen held a workshop presenting RTC Tool 2 by demonstrating the setup and simulating of a reservoir control system. The vivid discussion of the user showed their interest in and need of those simulation and optimization techniques.

On Thursday evening the group enjoyed the typical atmosphere of a Viennese Heurigen a seasonal vine and traditional food restaurant.

All participants expressed their interest in meeting again next year.
