Interactive Delft-FEWS international userdays on user perspectives
Last month, approximately 150 Delft-FEWS Users from over 20 different countries came together during the 13th International Delft-FEWS User Days on October 25th and 26th, 2017. It was the best showing since the annual event began 13 years ago! The theme ‘User Perspectives', emphasizing the end-user experience, was reflected in several presentations and breakout sessions. Michael Cranston from the University of Dundee/RAB Consultants kicked off the event with an engaging and interactive keynote presentation about end user needs. Other presentations touched on international cooperation, cloud computing, machine learning, probabilistic forecasting, and operational water management in Delft-FEWS. All the presentations are available for download on the Delft-FEWS website. Pictures of the event can be viewed here.
The afternoon breakout sessions dealt with topics like crisis management, impact-based forecasting, the future of hydrological forecasting, and what makes for a balanced forecasting system. New this year, the User Demo sessions, in which users gave hands-on demonstrations of their own Delft-FEWS systems, were quite interactive. A broad range of Delft-FEWS capabilities were on display, sparking many one-on-one conversations as attendees exchanged ideas about their own systems.
Given its success, we definitely plan to include the User Demo's in next year's program and look forward to seeing more of your systems! Another popular break-out session was "Hands-on with new features," in which Dave de Koning interactively shared various new Delft-FEWS features. The annual Delft-FEWS dinner was – as every year – a good opportunity to continue networking and follow-up on earlier discussions.
We would like to thank all attendees for making this years' event a success. If you have any questions or suggestions for the User Days, you can always contact us at email@example.com. We look forward to meeting you at next year's International Delft-FEWS User Days on November 7th and 8th, 2018!
