intro story Coast / Estuary
Coast / EstuaryCoastal systems are among the most dynamic physical systems on earth and are subject to a large variety of forces. The morphodynamic changes occurring to coastlines worldwide are of great interest and importance. These changes occur as a result of the erosion of sediments, its subsequent transport as bed load or suspended load, and eventual deposition. Estuaries are partly enclosed water bodies that have an open connection to the coast. Estuaries generally have one or more branching channels, intertidal mudflats and/or salt marshes. Intertidal areas are of high ecological importance and trap sediments (sands, silts, clays and organic matter). Within the Delft3D modelling package a large variation of coastal and estuarine physical and chemical processes can be simulated. These include waves, tidal propagation, wind- or wave-induced water level setup, flow induced by salinity or temperature gradients, sand and mud transport, water quality and changing bathymetry (morphology). Delft3D can also be used operationally e.g. storm, surge and algal bloom forecasting. dispersion of radionuclides
Dear all, I'm beginner in DELFT 3D and I'm working on the dispersion of radionuclides. Please help me with the following issues. 1- Regarding the “DELWAQ” module, is it reasonable to study the dispersion of conservative radionuclide (which their transport equation is mainly the advection-diffusion Eq.) via coupling a transport code to DELFT 3D? or does DELFT have the ability to do such a simulation by itself? 2- If the coupling is reasonable, is it possible to define the advection-diffusion Eq. by means of a UDF and using its variables or is it doable trough the source code of DELFT? Is there a complete access to the source of the code? 3- By using UDF for this purpose, is it necessary to define certain kind of input data for UDF? or do we only use the computed current data from DELFT as input data for transport calculations in the UDF? Your assistance in this matter is greatly appreciated.
