intro story Coast / Estuary

Coast / Estuary

Coastal systems are among the most dynamic physical systems on earth and are subject to a large variety of forces. The morphodynamic changes occurring to coastlines worldwide are of great interest and importance. These changes occur as a result of the erosion of sediments, its subsequent transport as bed load or suspended load, and eventual deposition.
Estuaries are partly enclosed water bodies that have an open connection to the coast. Estuaries generally have one or more branching channels, intertidal mudflats and/or salt marshes. Intertidal areas are of high ecological importance and trap sediments (sands, silts, clays and organic matter).
Within the Delft3D modelling package a large variation of coastal and estuarine physical and chemical processes can be simulated. These include waves, tidal propagation, wind- or wave-induced water level setup, flow induced by salinity or temperature gradients, sand and mud transport, water quality and changing bathymetry (morphology). Delft3D can also be used operationally e.g. storm, surge and algal bloom forecasting.
On this discussion page you can post questions, research discussions or just share your experience about modelling coastal and/or estuarine systems with Delft3D FM.

I just recd a trail version of GUI with 1 year license.
When I use the sample case from tutorial and run the simulation,
it says "Executable d_hydro.exe not found on directory C:/program files/Deltares/Delft3D 4.02.03/win64/flow2d3d/bin

I search some earlier forumns.. They say, we need to download the source code and compile it. It was very tricky and videos are confusing..
Hence, i requested for Inbuilt GUI.

So where can we download the d_hyrdo.exe file

looking forward for a quick solution to go through

with best regards

Dr. Rao,

You need to compile the source code and put them in the correct folders, which is the open source version and you can get it for free and full functioning. There is another version, which might cost a few thousand euro and you can get an installation package. That is complete packed version, and just need a few click to install, then you get a complete system isnistalled in your system. Pls contact for more details.

Dear Mr Qinghua,

How do we compile the source code?
And by source code do you mean the standalone Delft3d Dashboard? I downloading and running the application would be sufficient.
