intro story Coast / Estuary

Coast / Estuary

Coastal systems are among the most dynamic physical systems on earth and are subject to a large variety of forces. The morphodynamic changes occurring to coastlines worldwide are of great interest and importance. These changes occur as a result of the erosion of sediments, its subsequent transport as bed load or suspended load, and eventual deposition.

Estuaries are partly enclosed water bodies that have an open connection to the coast. Estuaries generally have one or more branching channels, intertidal mudflats and/or salt marshes. Intertidal areas are of high ecological importance and trap sediments (sands, silts, clays and organic matter).
Within the Delft3D modelling package a large variation of coastal and estuarine physical and chemical processes can be simulated. These include waves, tidal propagation, wind- or wave-induced water level setup, flow induced by salinity or temperature gradients, sand and mud transport, water quality and changing bathymetry (morphology). Delft3D can also be used operationally e.g. storm, surge and algal bloom forecasting.

On this discussion page you can post questions, research discussions or just share your experience about modelling coastal and/or estuarine systems with Delft3D FM.

Hellow

I use Delft3D Open Source version 4.00.02 in Windows XP computer and it works fine when I use flow or grid sections.

But, when I use WAQ - Waq(1) section, i always get a error message.

The message contents are as follows.

Error: Authorization problem
No such feature exists.
Feature: DHS_Delft3D_WAQ
License path: C:\Program Files (x86)\DS_Flex\Delft3D_GUI.lic;
FLEXnet Licensing error:-5,357
For further information, refer to the FLEXnet Licensing documentation,
available at "www.macrovision.com".

Also, when I click 'Open PLCT -> Define input' button, the error message showes up again.

That massages contents as follows.

"Use of configuratio WAQ is not allowed."

Even if i got a new lisence file, most of tools (related to WAQ) do not work in my computer.

I don't know how to slove this problem.

Would you please help me to solve this problem.

Thank you
Jin

Hello Jin,

Delft3D 4.00.02 is quite old, it came out in 2012. Delft3D WAQ and some tools were not open source yet, which should explain your errors.

I recommend downloading and compiling a newer version of the Delft3D executables. Please note that modern versions of Delft3D are no longer compatible with 32-bit Windows. If your Windows XP version is 32-bit, you may need to upgrade your operating system in order to use the latest Delft3D versions.

In case you do not wish to compile the software yourself, we also offer pre-compiled and validated versions of Delft3D 4 and Delft3D Flexible Mesh in our service packages: https://www.deltares.nl/en/software/delft3d-flexible-mesh-suite/#service-packages

Kind regards,
