Coast / Estuary

Coastal systems are among the most dynamic physical systems on earth and are subject to a large variety of forces. The morphodynamic changes occurring to coastlines worldwide are of great interest and importance. These changes occur as a result of the erosion of sediments, its subsequent transport as bed load or suspended load, and eventual deposition. 
 
Estuaries are partly enclosed water bodies that have an open connection to the coast. Estuaries generally have one or more branching channels, intertidal mudflats and/or salt marshes. Intertidal areas are of high ecological importance and trap sediments (sands, silts, clays and organic matter).
Within the Delft3D modelling package a large variation of coastal and estuarine physical and chemical processes can be simulated. These include waves, tidal propagation, wind- or wave-induced water level setup, flow induced by salinity or temperature gradients, sand and mud transport, water quality and changing bathymetry (morphology). Delft3D can also be used operationally e.g. storm, surge and algal bloom forecasting.

HI,

I am having a domain with 55*55 grid. I am running FLOW and WAVE model combined.The model is running without any errors and warnings but when I look into the results, the model is working fine for the TIDE, but in case of wave the significant wave height is decreasing towards the shore , I am attaching the significant wave height image as well as the model files including grid, domain, boundary conditions etc.

I have taken the bathymetry from Gebco, one of my friend is saying it wont give accurate bathymetry nearshore....is the bathymetry influencing the results in this case?

Hey,

I am currently experiencing a same kind of problem. My waves lose a lot of height as they travel to the shore for no apparent reason, have you in the meantime solved this problem. I have the feeling that something must be wrong in my wave-module.

Have you checked that there is water in this inshore region?  (Check in the FLOW GUI Visualisation tool or get output from the FLOW simulation).  Possibly the GEBCO bathy nearshore means that you have dry cells along the shoreline.......
