intro story Coast / Estuary

Coast / Estuary

Coastal systems are among the most dynamic physical systems on earth and are subject to a large variety of forces. The morphodynamic changes occurring to coastlines worldwide are of great interest and importance. These changes occur as a result of the erosion of sediments, its subsequent transport as bed load or suspended load, and eventual deposition.

Estuaries are partly enclosed water bodies that have an open connection to the coast. Estuaries generally have one or more branching channels, intertidal mudflats and/or salt marshes. Intertidal areas are of high ecological importance and trap sediments (sands, silts, clays and organic matter).
Within the Delft3D modelling package a large variation of coastal and estuarine physical and chemical processes can be simulated. These include waves, tidal propagation, wind- or wave-induced water level setup, flow induced by salinity or temperature gradients, sand and mud transport, water quality and changing bathymetry (morphology). Delft3D can also be used operationally e.g. storm, surge and algal bloom forecasting.

URGENT: Compilation error on Windows 10 - VS15 community + IFORT18

When building the delft3d_open.sln it comes up with an error saying:

"flex.exe - Application error

This application was unable to start correctly (0xc000012d).

Click OK to close the application."

The same happens for 'byacc.exe' and everything freezes. Please advise!

Also, having just retried compiling, new errors came up:

"FATAL error LNK1181: cannot open input file '..\kernel\lib\x64\release\kernel.lib' "

and followed by

"vctip.exe A new guard page for the stack cannot be created"

I have seen some other questions in the forum with SIMILAR problems with byacc.exe and flex.exe, but their compilations still finished and they were able to see the build log. Because mine freezes (and screen blacks out) before finishing compiling, I cannot retrieve a build log either. I am new to using all of these software, and any help would be much appreciated!! Thank you.

Me too. It gives me flex.exe error (0xc0000142) and the compilation stops.

Hi All,

I am getting a similar 'flex.exe unable to start' error and the model does not finish compiling, but freezes. Did anybody find a solution?

VS: 2015

Fortran Compiler 16

Thanks,

Chloe

I appreciate you probably found a solution by now, but for people who may have similar problems in the future, I found a solution that worked for me (on two different PCs).

Instead of checking out the latest tag from the svn, I checked out the trunk version of the source code.
I.e. I checked out https://svn.oss.deltares.nl/repos/delft3d/trunk/ into a new empty folder. This got rid of all errors for me. Hope this helps!

Best wishes,

Gabriel
