Coast / Estuary

Coastal systems are among the most dynamic physical systems on earth and are subject to a large variety of forces. The morphodynamic changes occurring to coastlines worldwide are of great interest and importance. These changes occur as a result of the erosion of sediments, its subsequent transport as bed load or suspended load, and eventual deposition. 
 
Estuaries are partly enclosed water bodies that have an open connection to the coast. Estuaries generally have one or more branching channels, intertidal mudflats and/or salt marshes. Intertidal areas are of high ecological importance and trap sediments (sands, silts, clays and organic matter).
Within the Delft3D modelling package a large variation of coastal and estuarine physical and chemical processes can be simulated. These include waves, tidal propagation, wind- or wave-induced water level setup, flow induced by salinity or temperature gradients, sand and mud transport, water quality and changing bathymetry (morphology). Delft3D can also be used operationally e.g. storm, surge and algal bloom forecasting.

Hi guys,

I am trying to run a wave-model on the WAVE module (standalone). I have set up all the wave input data(description, grids, obstacles...) but the boundary conditions which it is loaded from a file created with SWAN(.spc) and, therefore, I have modified my mdw file to be loaded properly. The fact, it is that I have to run more than one file(.spc) with the boundary conditions, but the rest of the settings are common for all cases, and I don't know how to run all these cases without modifying each time my mdw file(because I have 500 .spc files to be loaded!). I want to run all of them at once.


PS: The name of my .spc files(renamed to .bnd) is from "001_spectrum.bnd" to "500_espectrum.bnd"

Hi Manuel,

A not very elegant solution is to write a script, containing a loop in which the mdw file is altered and a WAVE calculation performed. Some example script languages: DOS (Windows), bash (Linux), Tcl (both), Perl (both), Python (both), Ruby (both).

You might try matlab (both windows and linux) as well in addition to the languages Adri listed.

Firstly, thanks for the help. According to the Adri's advice I am trying to program it in Python with the help of a classmate of the master.

P.S. Do you know if there is a way of working with currents with non uniform values along the grid using only the WAVE module? Maybe in an offline way? Or, I must use the FLOW?

I have four points along the grid with different values of the currents in each one.
