Coast / Estuary

Coastal systems are among the most dynamic physical systems on earth and are subject to a large variety of forces. The morphodynamic changes occurring to coastlines worldwide are of great interest and importance. These changes occur as a result of the erosion of sediments, its subsequent transport as bed load or suspended load, and eventual deposition. 
 
Estuaries are partly enclosed water bodies that have an open connection to the coast. Estuaries generally have one or more branching channels, intertidal mudflats and/or salt marshes. Intertidal areas are of high ecological importance and trap sediments (sands, silts, clays and organic matter).
Within the Delft3D modelling package a large variation of coastal and estuarine physical and chemical processes can be simulated. These include waves, tidal propagation, wind- or wave-induced water level setup, flow induced by salinity or temperature gradients, sand and mud transport, water quality and changing bathymetry (morphology). Delft3D can also be used operationally e.g. storm, surge and algal bloom forecasting.

Hello,

I am having a problem when running an online coupling of WAVE and FLOW:

   Time           0.000 found on com-file, group CURTIM

This same error occurs when running the tutorials provided with the GUI as well as my own mdf and mdw. This leads me to believe the problem is not with the input files themselves, but with the compiling or something to do with the directory? This same error occurred on another PC - both used the TRUNK version of the source code (because none of the tag versions were compiling correctly).

I have no idea how to deal with it. Some similar posts on this forum have suggested debugging, but I do not know how to do this - nor do I know how it will help. Please advise!! Any help would be much appreciated.

**I have attached the tri-diag file and rif-swan files for your consideration.

The errors mentioned in the original thread do NOT occur when running the FLOW-WAVE example (without the GUI) provided in the examples folder of the source code. This suggests that the problem may be with either the GUI or the oss installation of Delft3D?

When running the FLOW or WAVE simulations individually, no errors occur and simulations run just fine. The errors only occur when running the online coupling.

I have tried following the debugging steps in the README of the src folder of the source code, but get various errors saying that it cannot find or open the PDB files. See below:

Hi Adri,

Thank you for your reply. When you say to check the SWAN output files for error messages, do you mean the .dat and .def files? To my knowledge, these files are opened using postprocessing tools such as quickplot and GPP which are visual.. how do I check for error messages?

I have attached the .dat and .def files as well as the .swn file in case it helps.

I am assuming I am supposed to get a swn-diag.r17 output file that tells me what the error is, but no files of that sort are produced.

The only files that are made before crashing are shown in the screenshot attached.

I have tried going through each of the files and several posts on the forum, but I cannot seem to find any answers to why the online coupling is crashing. I also added the .swn file - which shows no errors or reasons for stopping.

Even examples that work fine with the windows batch file 'run' fail in the same way when they are opened using the GUI. As written in the above posts, this leads me to think it may be some bug or error in the GUI or source code. I don't know what else I can do and I am wasting a lot of time trying to solve this problem. Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you..
