intro story Coast / Estuary

Coast / Estuary

Coastal systems are among the most dynamic physical systems on earth and are subject to a large variety of forces. The morphodynamic changes occurring to coastlines worldwide are of great interest and importance. These changes occur as a result of the erosion of sediments, its subsequent transport as bed load or suspended load, and eventual deposition.

Estuaries are partly enclosed water bodies that have an open connection to the coast. Estuaries generally have one or more branching channels, intertidal mudflats and/or salt marshes. Intertidal areas are of high ecological importance and trap sediments (sands, silts, clays and organic matter).
Within the Delft3D modelling package a large variation of coastal and estuarine physical and chemical processes can be simulated. These include waves, tidal propagation, wind- or wave-induced water level setup, flow induced by salinity or temperature gradients, sand and mud transport, water quality and changing bathymetry (morphology). Delft3D can also be used operationally e.g. storm, surge and algal bloom forecasting.

On this discussion page you can post questions, research discussions or just share your experience about modelling coastal and/or estuarine systems with Delft3D FM.

Delft3D Flow-online-wave computation..

Dear all,

I installed Delft3D OS version. Flow only computation works fine and flow-online-wave model doesn't work. Following errors pop up,

Hi Dissa,

It seems like sth wrong on the wave side. Do you have more info?

Hi Ye,

Thanks for your response.

The model works fine in another machine. So, I believe, it's something to do with the installation (64 bit). Herewith attached resulting spec files. If you need, further info to figure out, please let me hear.

Cheers,
Dissa

Hi Dissa,

It looks like the file accessment is denied by the system. Can you try to delete this file before starting a new run?

So far, we only deliver win32 bit version exes. So it should work the same on both win32 OS and win64 OS.

If you still want me to confirm, I need more info...

Qinghua

Hi Ye,

Thanks for your response.

Well, I started the run without having those files sent you earlier. So, I do not feel, they are affecting as they were not there at the beginning and only created after starting the run. Please let me know what kind of more infor you need. The run itself is working fine (I checked with another pc), so apparently model set up is not the problem.

your advice is highly appreciated to get this over.

Cheers,
Dissa

Hi Dissa,

I am not sure based on the info you provided. There are 2 options, 1) We will release a new offical version before Sept. You may try with the new version. 2) If you still want to solve this problem, I have to reproduce the problem here. I need those input files then.

Qinghua

Was this matter ever resolved? I am getting the same errors when I try to run the model.

Hi, Ana and guys,

did you try the latest tag version or so, to reproduce this? I cannot reproduce this phenomenon with my computer system.

For some reasons, we didn't manage to give a new release before Sept. The new release plan is postponed a bit.
