intro story Coast / Estuary

Coast / Estuary

Coastal systems are among the most dynamic physical systems on earth and are subject to a large variety of forces. The morphodynamic changes occurring to coastlines worldwide are of great interest and importance. These changes occur as a result of the erosion of sediments, its subsequent transport as bed load or suspended load, and eventual deposition.

Estuaries are partly enclosed water bodies that have an open connection to the coast. Estuaries generally have one or more branching channels, intertidal mudflats and/or salt marshes. Intertidal areas are of high ecological importance and trap sediments (sands, silts, clays and organic matter).
Within the Delft3D modelling package a large variation of coastal and estuarine physical and chemical processes can be simulated. These include waves, tidal propagation, wind- or wave-induced water level setup, flow induced by salinity or temperature gradients, sand and mud transport, water quality and changing bathymetry (morphology). Delft3D can also be used operationally e.g. storm, surge and algal bloom forecasting.

On this discussion page you can post questions, research discussions or just share your experience about modelling coastal and/or estuarine systems with Delft3D FM.

Hi dears,

I try to run the model_delft3d provided by openda2.1, but met the following problem:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Application initializing
OpenDA version 2.1
java.lang.RuntimeException: Could not create instance for org.openda.model_delft3d.D3dResults: org.openda.model_delft3d.D3dResults
java.lang.RuntimeException: Could not create instance for org.openda.model_delft3d.D3dResults: org.openda.model_delft3d.D3dResults
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I check the D3D_HOME path which sounds good and has no blank space.

Does anyone can help me?

Thanks!
AA

Hi Arthur,

This looks more like an OpenDA technical issue.

Maybe you should look for a solution on the OpenDA discussion page.

Good luck,

Chris

Hi,

I'm having the same problem with OpenDA 2.1. OpenDA 2.0 works fine, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to support the latest Delft3D tagged version of the code.
I was looking through the OpenDA discussion page but yet to find anything regarding this isuue. If someone have found the solution please share your experience.

Kind regards,
Dmitry

Hi Dmitry,

My point was that this is the Delwaq forum, not exactly the best place to look for OpenDA support.

I'll try to get some OpenDA people have a look at this post.

EDIT: OpenDA developers are now looking at it. To be updated...

Christophe
