Coast / Estuary

Coastal systems are among the most dynamic physical systems on earth and are subject to a large variety of forces. The morphodynamic changes occurring to coastlines worldwide are of great interest and importance. These changes occur as a result of the erosion of sediments, its subsequent transport as bed load or suspended load, and eventual deposition. 
Estuaries are partly enclosed water bodies that have an open connection to the coast. Estuaries generally have one or more branching channels, intertidal mudflats and/or salt marshes. Intertidal areas are of high ecological importance and trap sediments (sands, silts, clays and organic matter).
Within the Delft3D modelling package a large variation of coastal and estuarine physical and chemical processes can be simulated. These include waves, tidal propagation, wind- or wave-induced water level setup, flow induced by salinity or temperature gradients, sand and mud transport, water quality and changing bathymetry (morphology). Delft3D can also be used operationally e.g. storm, surge and algal bloom forecasting.

Hi Delft3D community,

I am having some problems with the space varying wind in Wave Module. I have prepared a space varying wind file for my project (part of which is shown in Fig.1 and Fig. 2).

My initial date or reference date is 2009-12-01 as shown in Fig. 4 and the time points start at 00:00:00 of that date, as shown in Fig.4 as well.

My model works fine with my wave spectral files, however, I have been trying to figure it out why the model does not run with the wind time series (metro files).

I created my xwind.wnd and wind.wnd and my first time is at (Fig. 1): 0.0 minutes since 2009-12-01 00:00:00 +10:00 (australia). I also included the files in the mdw file as required (Fig. 5).

However, whenever I try to run the model the following error shows up (Fig. 3): Error in meteo module: In file xwind.wnd: Start time of data ( 600.00000 ) is behind start time of simulation ( 0.0000000 )

I have tried to understand why my start time of data is behind my start time of simulation, however, could not get it. According to what I specified they should be matching each other...

I appreciate if someone could give a help It might be something easy that is totally escaping me!

Hi Joao,

It is because you used: 0.0 minutes since 2009-12-01 00:00:00 +10:00, which is exactly 600 minutes since 2009-12-01 00:00:00. You might have to adjust your starting time to match that.
