intro story Coast / Estuary

Coast / Estuary

Coastal systems are among the most dynamic physical systems on earth and are subject to a large variety of forces. The morphodynamic changes occurring to coastlines worldwide are of great interest and importance. These changes occur as a result of the erosion of sediments, its subsequent transport as bed load or suspended load, and eventual deposition.

Estuaries are partly enclosed water bodies that have an open connection to the coast. Estuaries generally have one or more branching channels, intertidal mudflats and/or salt marshes. Intertidal areas are of high ecological importance and trap sediments (sands, silts, clays and organic matter).
Within the Delft3D modelling package a large variation of coastal and estuarine physical and chemical processes can be simulated. These include waves, tidal propagation, wind- or wave-induced water level setup, flow induced by salinity or temperature gradients, sand and mud transport, water quality and changing bathymetry (morphology). Delft3D can also be used operationally e.g. storm, surge and algal bloom forecasting.

errors after installation of Delft3D_4.01.00.rc.09

After installing Delft3D_4.01.00.rc.09, I have tried to run a tutorial file with Flow/Start. I have got the error:

could'nt read file [ ]create_config_xml.tcl

I have searched for such a file all over the web, without results.
Then, I have set an empty file with this name in the corresponding folder, now obtaining this other error:

executable "d_hydro.exe" not found on directory [ ... ]

As the installation contains only .dll's and not executable files, the second error is obvious.

Could someone please help me?

Thanks in advance, Beppe Patrizi

Hi Beppe,

Refer to this message

http://oss.deltares.nl/web/delft3d/general/-/message_boards/view_message/378675

You need to compile the source code first and put the compiled binaries to the correct directory, then you can run these examples. Or you can buy the service package, from the service team of Delft, you can get the compiled executables and after installation, you can just click and run the examples.

Enjoy,

Qinghua

Yes, but the source is not yet available on the web, for what I have understood. And the distribution I have downloaded comes as a running binary. Or not? Beppe

Hi Beppe,

No. The installation is the Delft3D GUI. No executables inside.

The source code is available on web since 2011. Ref to this: http://oss.deltares.nl/web/delft3d/source-code

Enjoy,

Qinghua

Hi Qinghua, I think to have understood, at the end. I have found and downloaded the correct set of files. Thank you very much for the help.
