intro story Coast / Estuary

Coast / Estuary

Coastal systems are among the most dynamic physical systems on earth and are subject to a large variety of forces. The morphodynamic changes occurring to coastlines worldwide are of great interest and importance. These changes occur as a result of the erosion of sediments, its subsequent transport as bed load or suspended load, and eventual deposition.

Estuaries are partly enclosed water bodies that have an open connection to the coast. Estuaries generally have one or more branching channels, intertidal mudflats and/or salt marshes. Intertidal areas are of high ecological importance and trap sediments (sands, silts, clays and organic matter).
Within the Delft3D modelling package a large variation of coastal and estuarine physical and chemical processes can be simulated. These include waves, tidal propagation, wind- or wave-induced water level setup, flow induced by salinity or temperature gradients, sand and mud transport, water quality and changing bathymetry (morphology). Delft3D can also be used operationally e.g. storm, surge and algal bloom forecasting.

Hi,

I'm a new user of Delft3d. I am trying to run a nested model, but there are errors in the end of nesting.adm file, as follows:

*
* Deltares, NESTHD1 Version 1.60.00.3574, Apr 02 2014, 11:32:53
*
* Run date: 2015/10/10 22:38:42

* Name grid file overall model : ######.grd
* Name enclosure file overall model : ######.enc
*
* Name grid file detailed model : C:\Users\..\######.grd
* Name enclosure file detailed model : C:\Users\..\######.enc
* Name bnd. definition file detailed model : C:\Users\..\######.bnd
*
* Name nest administration file : nesting.adm
* Name FLOW observation file : ddtemp.obs //no this file
*

Did you see this before? How to resolve it?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Hardy,

My first guess is that the name of your input files is too long. Can you try with file names with a maximum length of 6 characters in front of the extension?

Adri

Hello, I am getting the same error and have tried shortening the name of my files. Do you have any other suggestions?

Hi Ismael,

There is a conflict between the nesthd exe and the grid file.
Use a text editor to remove line 6 in the grid files, holds something about "Missing Value".
With this line removed it should work fine.
