intro story D-Flow FM

D-Flow Flexible Mesh

D-Flow Flexible Mesh (D-Flow FM) is the new software engine for hydrodynamical simulations on unstructured grids in 1D-2D-3D. Together with the familiar curvilinear meshes from Delft3D 4, the unstructured grid can consist of triangles, pentagons (etc.) and 1D channel networks, all in one single mesh. It combines proven technology from the hydrodynamic engines of Delft3D 4 and SOBEK 2 and adds flexible administration, resulting in:

  • Easier 1D-2D-3D model coupling, intuitive setup of boundary conditions and meteorological forcings (amongst others).
  • More flexible 2D gridding in delta regions, river junctions, harbours, intertidal flats and more.
  • High performance by smart use of multicore architectures, and grid computing clusters.
An overview of the current developments can be found here.
The D-Flow FM - team would be delighted if you would participate in discussions on the generation of meshes, the specification of boundary conditions, the running of computations, and all kinds of other relevant topics. Feel free to share your smart questions and/or brilliant solutions!

We have launched a new website (still under construction so expect continuous improvements) and a new forum dedicated to Delft3D Flexible Mesh.

Missing create_config_xml.tcl

Hi everyone,

I installed Delft3D Flow on my new machine and receive an error message when I start simulations. It says "error in startup script, file create_config_xml.tcl not found". There is also another error message popping up prior the mentioned one. It says "Error in startup script , Problem creating accessible interface for QPushButton(0x786240). Make sure to deploy Qt with accessibility plugins". See also attached error messages.

Does anyone has an idea how to solve my problem and make FLOW running?

I got from similar posts, that there should be a file "create_config_xml.tcl" in folder "bin" (...\bin\win32\menu\bin\create_config_xml.tcl). This one is missing in my folder. There was mentioned that it is possible to download the missing file and copy it into the folder, but I couldn´t open the download link.

Are both error messages due to the missing file, or do I have to solve two different problems here?

The version I installed is a pre-compiled GUI of 4.01.01.rc.03 on windows 10.

Thanks for your help

Hi Kris,

These are two different problems:
The Qt error is probably related to the Delft3D-GUI on Windows 10. I'll ask my colleague to answer that question.

About the create_config_xml.tcl error:
When you download and build the source code of the kernels and install them, then create_config_xml.tcl is included. Please follow the instructions on this page.

If this link to the tcl script itself does not work, then something is wrong with your oss account. Please let me know when that's the case.
