D-Flow Flexible Mesh

D-Flow Flexible Mesh (D-Flow FM) is the new software engine for hydrodynamical simulations on unstructured grids in 1D-2D-3D. Together with the familiar curvilinear meshes from Delft3D 4, the unstructured grid can consist of triangles, pentagons (etc.) and 1D channel networks, all in one single mesh. It combines proven technology from the hydrodynamic engines of Delft3D 4 and SOBEK 2 and adds flexible administration, resulting in:

  • Easier 1D-2D-3D model coupling, intuitive setup of boundary conditions and meteorological forcings (amongst others).
  • More flexible 2D gridding in delta regions, river junctions, harbours, intertidal flats and more.
  • High performance by smart use of multicore architectures, and grid computing clusters.

Sediment assigned to river discharge

Good day! Is there any way to assign sediment discharge as part of river discharge locations? In Delft 3D Flow, is the only initial configuration of sediment concentration uniformly spread throughout the domain? Thank you for your consideration.

Hi Dianne,

In Delft3D you are allowed to specify sediment transport boundary conditions from all the open boundaries, to set the (spatial varying) initial condition at all the grid cells, to set discharge (in and out) of the computational domain using Operation/Discharge.

You may refer to Delft3D-FLOW Manual for boundary settings, section 9.4.2 for concepts. And 11.1.7 for more detail about boudnary and initial conditions. Or maybe you can register a Delft3D course, which will help you to deal with these complex issues within a short time.
