D-Flow Flexible Mesh

D-Flow Flexible Mesh (D-Flow FM) is the new software engine for hydrodynamical simulations on unstructured grids in 1D-2D-3D. Together with the familiar curvilinear meshes from Delft3D 4, the unstructured grid can consist of triangles, pentagons (etc.) and 1D channel networks, all in one single mesh. It combines proven technology from the hydrodynamic engines of Delft3D 4 and SOBEK 2 and adds flexible administration, resulting in:

  • Easier 1D-2D-3D model coupling, intuitive setup of boundary conditions and meteorological forcings (amongst others).
  • More flexible 2D gridding in delta regions, river junctions, harbours, intertidal flats and more.
  • High performance by smart use of multicore architectures, and grid computing clusters.

I ran a delft3d run on a bay, the simulation was done with wave(stand alone) part and didn't incorporate the flow part. 6 hourly, spatially varying wind data was the only input used. The run is perfectly completed, without any errors, but when i checked the outputs/results it shows no changes or no effective modelling, i.e. throughout the run period (1 year) the parameters like the water level, significant height etc are unchanged. For example, the significant wave height is zero always (at all time steps).
I've have prepared and checked the meteo file, keeping eye on the instructions from the user manual. I've given x and y wind velocities in 2 separate files and specified these in the mdw file, as per the instructions. Since the study area is bay, I'm looking forward to understand the role of local sea developed in such areas.
What can be done to make the run effective?

please note that after every iteration step, it is shown "accuracy OK in 0.00 % of wet grid points ( 98.00 % required)"
Exmaple:
iteration 11; sweep 1
+iteration 11; sweep 2
+iteration 11; sweep 3
+iteration 11; sweep 4
accuracy OK in 0.00 % of wet grid points ( 98.00 % required)

Can a run be effectively completed only with a wavecon file? If so how can i specify the time-space varying wind data in that?
Or is there any chance that my input not read? If so how could the model be running and how can i correct the issue?

Hi George,

From the files attached, I didn't see any problem. Maybe the problem is from other input files, such as grid settings, etc..

In Delft3D, the time- and space-varying wind/pressure field input (amp/amu/amv) is supported, and time-varying wind file (wavecon) is supported. Both functions should work properly.

For the notice of whoever looking for the answer. The issue was in the wind/meteo file, where tab delimitation was used instead of space delimitation. I think delft3d always work with space delimitation and not tab-delimitation.
