intro story D-Flow FM

D-Flow Flexible Mesh

D-Flow Flexible Mesh (D-Flow FM) is the new software engine for hydrodynamical simulations on unstructured grids in 1D-2D-3D. Together with the familiar curvilinear meshes from Delft3D 4, the unstructured grid can consist of triangles, pentagons (etc.) and 1D channel networks, all in one single mesh. It combines proven technology from the hydrodynamic engines of Delft3D 4 and SOBEK 2 and adds flexible administration, resulting in:

  • Easier 1D-2D-3D model coupling, intuitive setup of boundary conditions and meteorological forcings (amongst others).
  • More flexible 2D gridding in delta regions, river junctions, harbours, intertidal flats and more.
  • High performance by smart use of multicore architectures, and grid computing clusters.
An overview of the current developments can be found here.

The D-Flow FM - team would be delighted if you would participate in discussions on the generation of meshes, the specification of boundary conditions, the running of computations, and all kinds of other relevant topics. Feel free to share your smart questions and/or brilliant solutions!

error during the installation of DELFT3d on Windows 7

I've downloaded DELFT3d 4.0 version for Windows and I have tried to install DELFT3d interface on Windows 7, but it doesn't work.

I successfully completed the run of the two following files.exe:
- vcredist_x86_(2008_SP1).exe
- vcredist_x86_(2005_SP1).exe

Then, when I try to run the following files.exe:
- MCRInstaller.exe
- setup.delft3d.openhydromorpho.exe
- setup.delft3d.tutorial.exe
an error occur and the installation doesn't even start up.

Is this a version of DELFT3d compatible with Windows 7? If not, can you help me to solve this problem?

Many thanks.

RE: error during the installation of DELFT3d on Windows 7

Does anyone know how can I fix this problem?

I can't launch the installation of DELFT3D interface on Windows 7.
The installation doesn't even start when I want to execute the following files:
- setup.delft3d.openhydromorpho.exe
- setup.delft3d.tutorial.exe

Has someone find similar error during the installation of DELFT3D on windows 7?
Thanks in advance.

I'm having the same problem. Is anyone out there monitoring this user forum?

When I try to run the FLOW simulation in Windows 7 using the GUI I receive the following error:

Executable "deltares_hydro.exe" or "delftflow.exe" not found on directory "C:/Delft3D/w32/flow/bin"

The install of the Delft3D GUI Version 4.0 did not seem to have any problems.

Please advise on what steps I may take to solve this issue using the GUI version. If this does not work I will try to compile without windows.

Hi Allan,

Apparently there is misunderstanding. The install of the Delft3D GUI Version 4.0 doesn't contain the deltares_hydro.exe or delftflow.exe and other supporting libraries. You have compile the code by yourself to get those exes. Or you can contact Deltares for the service to get the precompiled version. GUI is only GUI as its name.

After you finished the compiling, you will get the exes and then you could copy those files to the correct folder and then the GUI will work.

Good luck!

Hi Qinghua,

How do you contact Deltares to get the precompiled version? Sorry if this is a silly question, I'm a new user and I'm still a bit confused. What I received from Deltares according to their email is a pre-compiled GUI version, it says:

"You can use this pre-compiled GUI and the pre & post processing tools for the following simulation kernels of Delft3D (version 4): Delft3D-FLOW & -MOR version 6.00.00.2346 & up, Delft3D-WAVE and DELWAQ.
You do need to manually download the source code of these simulation kernels from the download page at the Delft3D Open Source Community site and to compile them yourself. You will find detailed instructions there as well."

This means that the source code stills need to be compiled right? I need it for windows 10, now according to what you say it means that I don't necessary have to compile it myself because I can do another request to Deltares asking for the pre compiled version of the source code for the windows version I need?. If this is right, ¿How do I make that request?

Thank you a lot!
