intro story D-Flow FM

D-Flow Flexible Mesh

D-Flow Flexible Mesh (D-Flow FM) is the new software engine for hydrodynamical simulations on unstructured grids in 1D-2D-3D. Together with the familiar curvilinear meshes from Delft3D 4, the unstructured grid can consist of triangles, pentagons (etc.) and 1D channel networks, all in one single mesh. It combines proven technology from the hydrodynamic engines of Delft3D 4 and SOBEK 2 and adds flexible administration, resulting in:

  • Easier 1D-2D-3D model coupling, intuitive setup of boundary conditions and meteorological forcings (amongst others).
  • More flexible 2D gridding in delta regions, river junctions, harbours, intertidal flats and more.
  • High performance by smart use of multicore architectures, and grid computing clusters.
An overview of the current developments can be found here.

The D-Flow FM - team would be delighted if you would participate in discussions on the generation of meshes, the specification of boundary conditions, the running of computations, and all kinds of other relevant topics. Feel free to share your smart questions and/or brilliant solutions!

Problem in execute Delft3D Flow simulation

Dear all,

1. I have an issue regarding to executing Delft3D flow using GUI. It seemed fine, until I try to run / start FLOW simulation. It said that "d_hydro.exe" not found in installed folder. I checked and I did not find the d_hydro.exe although I followed intructions and installed properly Delft3D in my computer.
Also I attached the figure showing my matter.

2. I tried to copy deltares_hydro.exe (from older version, delft ver. 3.00) and change the file into d_hydro.exe. I thought the problem will be solved, but it was not. Even though it read the d_hydro.exe, it lead to another problem. It got error in "config_flow2d3d.xml".
the attached figure is below

3. I tried to follow the instructions written in Delft3D-FLOW_User_manual.pdf on section 6 (Execute a scenario). It said that I must try execute examples provided by Delft (https://svn.oss.deltares.nl/repos/delft3d/trunk/examples). I tried to run the f34.mdf (folder :01_standard) using GUI but still resulted similar problem as no.2.

If there is a similar problem and had been solved in the forum. Please give me the link / the post regarding to its solution.
I hope you can give me some solutions.

Thank you in advance

Hi Mochamad,

1. Did you follow the instruction on the source code page? See alse the [url=http://oss.deltares.nl/web/delft3d/faq#The example testcases don't run because the needed executables are missing]FAQ.

2. Don't mix old "deltares_hydro.exe" with "d_hydro.exe". They are not inter-changable. That's why they have different names.

3. That's correct; you first have to compile and install the kernels (or buy a service package), see the [url=http://oss.deltares.nl/web/delft3d/faq#The example testcases don't run because the needed executables are missing]FAQ.

Regards,

Adri
