intro story D-Flow FM

D-Flow Flexible Mesh

D-Flow Flexible Mesh (D-Flow FM) is the new software engine for hydrodynamical simulations on unstructured grids in 1D-2D-3D. Together with the familiar curvilinear meshes from Delft3D 4, the unstructured grid can consist of triangles, pentagons (etc.) and 1D channel networks, all in one single mesh. It combines proven technology from the hydrodynamic engines of Delft3D 4 and SOBEK 2 and adds flexible administration, resulting in:

  • Easier 1D-2D-3D model coupling, intuitive setup of boundary conditions and meteorological forcings (amongst others).
  • More flexible 2D gridding in delta regions, river junctions, harbours, intertidal flats and more.
  • High performance by smart use of multicore architectures, and grid computing clusters.
An overview of the current developments can be found here.
The D-Flow FM - team would be delighted if you would participate in discussions on the generation of meshes, the specification of boundary conditions, the running of computations, and all kinds of other relevant topics. Feel free to share your smart questions and/or brilliant solutions!

We have launched a new website (still under construction so expect continuous improvements) and a new forum dedicated to Delft3D Flexible Mesh.

Is D3D-WAVE time frame limited??

Dear all,

I am trying to run a simulation on D3D-WAVE, with specified "output for specific locations" (table, 1D Spectra and 2D Spectra checked).

The problem is that I am getting every-time the same error which consists on:

** Severe error : File open failed, filename: WORK.loct***.sp1
File -> WORK.loct***.sp1 IOSTAT= 43 UF
** Severe error : File open failed, filename: WORK3.lot***.sp2
File -> WORK.lot***.sp2 IOSTAT= 43 UF

I have checked my files and I have realized that the last one that I have is: WORK.loct999.sp1 and WORK.lot999.sp2.

I have also realized that the number 999 of the files corresponds to the 999 time frame of my simulation.

My question is: Am I limited to do only 999 time frame calculation? Or can I change this limit anywhere?

Please help me

Best Regards

Hi Rop rop,

Can you post the tri-diag file as well? Indeed in old versions, there are limitations, but in the new version, at least in the recent release version, this limitation should have been removed.

Hi, I have been facing the exact same problem. I too have 999 .sp2 files created by the WAVE module. I really need a fix on this.

Dear friends,

I'm facing the same exact problem and it's driving me crazy. I'm using Delft3D-WAVE GUI Version

Is there any way we can solve this?
