D-Flow Flexible Mesh

D-Flow Flexible Mesh (D-Flow FM) is the new software engine for hydrodynamical simulations on unstructured grids in 1D-2D-3D. Together with the familiar curvilinear meshes from Delft3D 4, the unstructured grid can consist of triangles, pentagons (etc.) and 1D channel networks, all in one single mesh. It combines proven technology from the hydrodynamic engines of Delft3D 4 and SOBEK 2 and adds flexible administration, resulting in:

  • Easier 1D-2D-3D model coupling, intuitive setup of boundary conditions and meteorological forcings (amongst others).
  • More flexible 2D gridding in delta regions, river junctions, harbours, intertidal flats and more.
  • High performance by smart use of multicore architectures, and grid computing clusters.

How to consider sea level rise escenarios with Delft3D Flow?

Hi, I want to use Delft3D to simulate different escenarios of sea level rise in an estuary.

In a previous work I simulated water levels in a time series format using for the open boundary tide gauge measurements for two different periods of time of the year. Now I would like to use the same input data to simulate different sea level rise escenarios (Since I do not have tidal constituents). Is there a way to incorporate a sea level rise rate in the model?

I've been searching for the examples and found several references to Storm Surge Modeling of Typhoon Haiyan at the Naval Oceanographic Office Using Delft3D and Integrated Biogeomorphological Modeling Using Delft3D
 on Worldwidescience. Hope there examples could be helpful for your research too.

Hi Esther.  Can you not simply add a constant value to the timeseries values in your .bct file?

I am thinking about this problem too, or may we just add a constant value (sea level variation) to the bathymetric data, since the depth  below mean water level and is defined psoitive downward.

I think it's better to add sea-level rise to the water level for the open boundary.
