intro story D-Flow FM

D-Flow Flexible Mesh

D-Flow Flexible Mesh (D-Flow FM) is the new software engine for hydrodynamical simulations on unstructured grids in 1D-2D-3D. Together with the familiar curvilinear meshes from Delft3D 4, the unstructured grid can consist of triangles, pentagons (etc.) and 1D channel networks, all in one single mesh. It combines proven technology from the hydrodynamic engines of Delft3D 4 and SOBEK 2 and adds flexible administration, resulting in:

  • Easier 1D-2D-3D model coupling, intuitive setup of boundary conditions and meteorological forcings (amongst others).
  • More flexible 2D gridding in delta regions, river junctions, harbours, intertidal flats and more.
  • High performance by smart use of multicore architectures, and grid computing clusters.
An overview of the current developments can be found here.

The D-Flow FM - team would be delighted if you would participate in discussions on the generation of meshes, the specification of boundary conditions, the running of computations, and all kinds of other relevant topics. Feel free to share your smart questions and/or brilliant solutions!

Access Violation Error with WAVE

Hi all. I have been trying to get a WAVE simulation up for almost a week now, and I keep running into the same error. FLOW starts fine, and keeps running after WAVE crashes, but WAVE returns the error below.

The FLOW-only simulation works just fine with this model. And I have no problem running other FLOW-WAVE simulations. I've remade the .mdw file several times now, and checked the .bat file line by line and I can't find anything wrong. Does anybody have an idea what's going wrong? I don't know how to debug this.

I am running on Windows 7, 64-bit

Here's the error:

Hi Christopher,

"Access violation" can be caused by a lot of errors and does not give additional information.

First check whether your model fits into (32bit) WAVE. Can you use the task manager while starting the calculation to see whether WAVE is getting close to using 2Gb? Or all running applications together more than what is available on your machine?

If you have the opportunity to do this calculation on Linux (using 64bit binaries), what happens then?

If this does not help, some debugging is needed. I can do the debugging for you, but you do need a service package for that.

Adri

When I run the tutorial,part-tracer,with the delft gui,I have the same error.

I change the VS10 + IVF13 -> VS15 +VF16 -> VS13 + VF16 then solve the problem.

But I don't know why.

Anyway, after 3 weeks the software is normal.

Hi Azure Wan,

Thanks for reporting this. Something seems to be wrong related to used dlls in delpar. We'll have a look at it.

Regards,

Adri
