D-Flow Flexible Mesh

D-Flow Flexible Mesh (D-Flow FM) is the new software engine for hydrodynamical simulations on unstructured grids in 1D-2D-3D. Together with the familiar curvilinear meshes from Delft3D 4, the unstructured grid can consist of triangles, pentagons (etc.) and 1D channel networks, all in one single mesh. It combines proven technology from the hydrodynamic engines of Delft3D 4 and SOBEK 2 and adds flexible administration, resulting in:

  • Easier 1D-2D-3D model coupling, intuitive setup of boundary conditions and meteorological forcings (amongst others).
  • More flexible 2D gridding in delta regions, river junctions, harbours, intertidal flats and more.
  • High performance by smart use of multicore architectures, and grid computing clusters.

Wind Stress error in DELFT3D GUI produced MDF file

The WStres parameters in an MDF file created by the DELFT3D-FLOW GUI (version 3.43.05.22651 issued with version 4.01.00.rc.03 of the main GUI) are not recorded correctly. It appears that any changes to the values for Break Point C in the /Physical Parameters/Wind Drag Coeff/ table [i.e. Break Point C coefficient and wind speed] are not written to the .mdf file when saving or exiting the FLOW GUI.

We noticed the same. When you change break point A or B, the save mdf file menu item becomes active, when you change C, it stays greyed out. If you change a combination of C and A and/or B, the bottom becomes active and you can save the file, but neither of the values for breakpoint C get written to the file. Unless that value pair is constant for all use cases (very unlikely), this seems like a bug.

This bug has been fixed in version 3.50 which will become available in the next release.
