intro story D-Flow FM

D-Flow Flexible Mesh

D-Flow Flexible Mesh (D-Flow FM) is the new software engine for hydrodynamical simulations on unstructured grids in 1D-2D-3D. Together with the familiar curvilinear meshes from Delft3D 4, the unstructured grid can consist of triangles, pentagons (etc.) and 1D channel networks, all in one single mesh. It combines proven technology from the hydrodynamic engines of Delft3D 4 and SOBEK 2 and adds flexible administration, resulting in:

  • Easier 1D-2D-3D model coupling, intuitive setup of boundary conditions and meteorological forcings (amongst others).
  • More flexible 2D gridding in delta regions, river junctions, harbours, intertidal flats and more.
  • High performance by smart use of multicore architectures, and grid computing clusters.
An overview of the current developments can be found here.

The D-Flow FM - team would be delighted if you would participate in discussions on the generation of meshes, the specification of boundary conditions, the running of computations, and all kinds of other relevant topics. Feel free to share your smart questions and/or brilliant solutions!

QUICKPLOT export file ERROR

Youngling Posts: 12 Join Date: 4/29/13 Recent Posts
Hi,

I am trying to export my data from the trim file using QUICKPLOT. However, I have been encountering this error.

Caught in qp_getdata/gridcelldata:
Error using ==> zeros
Out of memory. Type HELP MEMORY for your options.

My array size is [2802, 1, 10].

Matlab version is 2011a 64-bit, my system memory is 16GB

Is anyone able to advise?

Hi Shawn,

You indicate that your array size is [2802, 1, 10]. I assume that that is size of the data slice you want to export; your whole model may be bigger. True?
The routine needs to load the whole data set from file before it can make the subset. That might be a problem, but your system seems to have plenty of memory ...
Your post suggests that you are working with QUICKPLOT via the Delft3D-MATLAB interface, i.e. not the standalone version (the standalone version still is a 32bit version and has memory limitations). Is the problem reproducible? Does it also occur when you close and restart MATLAB and do the export as the first step?

If it is reproducible, then we need to figure out where it happens exactly and see whether it can be circumvented. To give a bit more information, I have extended the QUICKPLOT error reporting. If you download the Delft3D-MATLAB interface as revision 2645 (or later) from
https://svn.oss.deltares.nl/repos/delft3d/trunk/src/tools_lgpl/matlab/quickplot/progsrc
and use this one instead of the one that you are using, then you should get information on the line number where the crash occurs ...

If it is reproducible, it might also be useful to get the data file (contact Delft3D support for ftp upload option). Such that we can test with the same file.

Cheers,

Bert

Hi,

I managed to partially solve my problem by significantly exporting less time steps; from 2000 to 50 time steps.
And yes I am working with QUICKPLOT via the Delft3D-MATLAB interface. I am going to try out the latest revision of the Delft3D-MATLAB interface soon.

Thanks!!
