D-Flow Flexible Mesh

D-Flow Flexible Mesh (D-Flow FM) is the new software engine for hydrodynamical simulations on unstructured grids in 1D-2D-3D. Together with the familiar curvilinear meshes from Delft3D 4, the unstructured grid can consist of triangles, pentagons (etc.) and 1D channel networks, all in one single mesh. It combines proven technology from the hydrodynamic engines of Delft3D 4 and SOBEK 2 and adds flexible administration, resulting in:

  • Easier 1D-2D-3D model coupling, intuitive setup of boundary conditions and meteorological forcings (amongst others).
  • More flexible 2D gridding in delta regions, river junctions, harbours, intertidal flats and more.
  • High performance by smart use of multicore architectures, and grid computing clusters.

Hi,

When I try to run a FLOW-WAVE run, I have this error:

DioError 902 : Could not open WAVE2FLOW_DATA.txt_WAVE2FLOW_DATA.data for deletion

I'm working on linux. Do you know why? I think there is a problem with the creation of files WAVE2FLOW_DATA.txt and WAVE2FLOW_DATA.data from the dioconfig.ini.


Other question:

If I used #.amu#, #.amv#, #.amp# files, is it posible to have wind conditions with SWAN=?
When I don't active wind conditions but only additional parameters, I can't have the wind growth function active.

I have tryed to create wnd spatial varying files with matlab as the same way as for #.amu#, #.amv#, #.amp# files (it goes well with these files) but It doesn't work.
Someone has an example of spatial varying wind file?

Hi Florian,

I added info about FLOW-WAVE runs to the FAQ.

You can feed wind files to WAVE. They are transferred to SWAN.

Thanks for your answer.

For the error with FLOW-WAVE run, I will check the FAQ.
I checked the wind files you gave me.
As I said, I have no problem for generate meteo_on_equidistant_grid but meteo_on_computational_grid.
The program say me: error reading wind v-field.

Do you have an example of one time step meteo_on_computational_grid with a bigger grid please?


What I'm not sure to undertsand is the utility of wind files and meteo files.

If I use additional files (Filwu,Filwv,Filwp), I don't need to specify wind inpunt files, isn't it?
The model read wind and pressure conditiosn from my meteo_on_equidistant_grid files?

But If I don't specificy wind input files, I can't have wave growth parameters active (and others...).

So, what Can I do?

Hi Florian,

Attached is an example for meteo on the computational grid. This is an old fashioned method of prescribing wind and only works for FLOW, not for WAVE.

In FLOW:
special keywords are used for the different type of wind input files. Examples: filwu/v/p for equidistant and fwndgu/v/p for curvilinear wind, both on separate wind grids.

In WAVE:
The keyword "MeteoFile" can be used to specify different types of wind/meteo input files. "MeteoFile" can be added both to the "[General]" block and the "[Domain]" block. It is also possible to specify uniform wind without using a "MeteoFile". Use the GUI for that.
