Errors running different versions of FLOW - D-Flow Flexible Mesh - Delft3D
intro story D-Flow FM
D-Flow Flexible MeshD-Flow Flexible Mesh (D-Flow FM) is the new software engine for hydrodynamical simulations on unstructured grids in 1D-2D-3D. Together with the familiar curvilinear meshes from Delft3D 4, the unstructured grid can consist of triangles, pentagons (etc.) and 1D channel networks, all in one single mesh. It combines proven technology from the hydrodynamic engines of Delft3D 4 and SOBEK 2 and adds flexible administration, resulting in:
An overview of the current developments can be found here. The D-Flow FM - team would be delighted if you would participate in discussions on the generation of meshes, the specification of boundary conditions, the running of computations, and all kinds of other relevant topics. Feel free to share your smart questions and/or brilliant solutions!

Errors running different versions of FLOW

Dear guys
good to talk to you again
recently for different cases (all related to river flows) I run the same cases with a version of early 2012 and with one of the most recent in 2013 (as we start trying WAQ module).
I downloaded the new interface and compiled the new source code.
The new version stops during the running and the older version keeps running till the end with good results.
I was updating the software with the students but now I'm waiting before doing that.
Have you observed something like that in other cases?
Please, have you any suggestion?
Thank you for any help,
best regards

Hi Paolo,
That's new to me.
We are very interested in a testcase showing this problem. Can you zip the input files and post it on this forum? I can also give you access to our FTP-site.
Thank you.
Regards,
Adri

Thank you Adri,
let me prepare the cases to show to you. For the next Thursday or Wednesdey you'll get them.
Good idea if I can access to ftp. May you please prepare it for us next week?
My mail is pgyssels@gmail.com.
Thank you again
cheers,
Paolo

Hi Paolo,
I can reproduce your problem using Delft3D-FLOW version 5.01.00.2163.
Your model runs “without problems” using the latest tagged version of Delft3D-FLOW (https://svn.oss.deltares.nl/repos/delft3d/tags/2869).
Both runs show a lot of warnings in the diagnosis file. Attached is the one from revision 2163.
It seems that your model is on the edge of being stable. A slightly different executable will cause slightly different results, and that is probably the difference between crashing or not.
This post gives more information on how to solve this.
Regards,
Adri
