D-Flow Flexible Mesh

D-Flow Flexible Mesh (D-Flow FM) is the new software engine for hydrodynamical simulations on unstructured grids in 1D-2D-3D. Together with the familiar curvilinear meshes from Delft3D 4, the unstructured grid can consist of triangles, pentagons (etc.) and 1D channel networks, all in one single mesh. It combines proven technology from the hydrodynamic engines of Delft3D 4 and SOBEK 2 and adds flexible administration, resulting in:

  • Easier 1D-2D-3D model coupling, intuitive setup of boundary conditions and meteorological forcings (amongst others).
  • More flexible 2D gridding in delta regions, river junctions, harbours, intertidal flats and more.
  • High performance by smart use of multicore architectures, and grid computing clusters.

How much the limit of number of discharge location is?

Hello, Sir.


I'm operating a hydrodynamic model, the purpose is estimation of the desalination period in Saemangeum lake, Korea.

I have to consider salt water spring from lake bed. So I inserted discharge points each cell(almost all cell), the number of discharge points are 5,616.

I tried to calculating, the simulation was not run.

How much the limit of number of discharge locations is? And how can I solve this problem(increasing discharge location)?

I found the maximum is 5,000. I'd like to increase discharge locations.

Hi Byongjun,

The easiest way is to change the source code yourself:
  • Checkout the latest tagged version (currently https://svn.oss.deltares.nl/repos/delft3d/tags/3058)
  • Open file "...\src\engines_gpl\flow2d3d\packages\data\include\pardef.igd" in a text editor and increase the 5000 on line 31:
    integer, parameter :: mxnsrc = 5000 ! Max. number of discharge points
  • Save the changed file and recompile the source code
