intro story D-Flow FM

D-Flow Flexible Mesh

D-Flow Flexible Mesh (D-Flow FM) is the new software engine for hydrodynamical simulations on unstructured grids in 1D-2D-3D. Together with the familiar curvilinear meshes from Delft3D 4, the unstructured grid can consist of triangles, pentagons (etc.) and 1D channel networks, all in one single mesh. It combines proven technology from the hydrodynamic engines of Delft3D 4 and SOBEK 2 and adds flexible administration, resulting in:

  • Easier 1D-2D-3D model coupling, intuitive setup of boundary conditions and meteorological forcings (amongst others).
  • More flexible 2D gridding in delta regions, river junctions, harbours, intertidal flats and more.
  • High performance by smart use of multicore architectures, and grid computing clusters.
An overview of the current developments can be found here.

The D-Flow FM - team would be delighted if you would participate in discussions on the generation of meshes, the specification of boundary conditions, the running of computations, and all kinds of other relevant topics. Feel free to share your smart questions and/or brilliant solutions!

Dear,

I'm having problems joining two grids, has anyone had any problems like this?

PS: File Attachment

The problem is due to grid rotation. I am trying to figure it out as well so I don't have the exact answer but let me know if you find one.
For now, I try this: Select one grid: Go to Operations>Rotate Grid Administration and then paste the two grids. I am still not sure, what the initial grid orientation is, so I had to rotate my grid twice before it worked properly.

If I find a more definitive answer, I'll let you know. emoticon

Cheers.

Hi All,

Which version of RGFGRID are you using?

Usually the problem is fixed by rotating the grid administration (see the operations tab) at least until version 4.18.01.18383 of RGFGRID. But last week I run into the same problem both pasting 2 grids or trying to compile their DD boundaries in 4.20.00.26750 and rotating the grids only crashed the GUI.

Does anyone know how to file this as a bug?

Regards,

João.

Sorry to dredge up an old thread, however, I've seen the same problem in recent versions of RGFGRID (4.20.00.30984). The fix is to make sure the MissingValue parameter in the top of the file is the same in both grids and then make sure to replace it throughout the file. Once doing this RGFGRID handles it smoothly. Should be an easy fix in the GUI. Just a matter of recognizing different MissingValues.

Zachary,

Could you or someone else please give some more information as I am also having this problem, when I look in the grd file I see no MissingValue parameter in the top of the file...

I only see a short header then lists of values, it looks like the missing value used may be: 0.00000000000000000E+00 , but this seems to be exactly the same for the 2 grids I am trying to paste, so I am not sure it is the problem.

The rotation trick also does not work for me..

I need to resurrect this thread as well because I am having the same issue. I am unsure how to change the grid administration, but the option View -> Regular Grid Administration -> Lines for my grids shows a black box that looks similar to the original post's issue.
