D-Flow Flexible Mesh

D-Flow Flexible Mesh (D-Flow FM) is the new software engine for hydrodynamical simulations on unstructured grids in 1D-2D-3D. Together with the familiar curvilinear meshes from Delft3D 4, the unstructured grid can consist of triangles, pentagons (etc.) and 1D channel networks, all in one single mesh. It combines proven technology from the hydrodynamic engines of Delft3D 4 and SOBEK 2 and adds flexible administration, resulting in:

  • Easier 1D-2D-3D model coupling, intuitive setup of boundary conditions and meteorological forcings (amongst others).
  • More flexible 2D gridding in delta regions, river junctions, harbours, intertidal flats and more.
  • High performance by smart use of multicore architectures, and grid computing clusters.

Hi everyone,

Running a simulation, the diagnosis file says this:

*** ERROR Zero or negative value found for Absolute T-model (Lee)

What is this error about, and what causes it? and

How can I solve this?

Hi Julio,

Tracing back in the source code:
You are using "heat flux model 1" (see the manual, section "9.8 Heat flux models") and the "heat exchange area" specified is zero (default) or negative. I expect that if you add the following line to your mdf-file, this error is solved:
Sarea = 0.5
A value between 0.0 and 1.0 will force the usage of a default wind coefficient "fwind" of 1.0 instead of "(5e6/Sarea)^0.05", see the manual, "Sweers formula" 9.238.

Please report back on this forum your findings. If my analysis is correct, I will improve the error message.

Hi Adri,

In effect, the error was in the "heat exchange area". I put the value of oceanic area in my model and that has fixed it.
