intro story D-Flow FM

D-Flow Flexible Mesh

D-Flow Flexible Mesh (D-Flow FM) is the new software engine for hydrodynamical simulations on unstructured grids in 1D-2D-3D. Together with the familiar curvilinear meshes from Delft3D 4, the unstructured grid can consist of triangles, pentagons (etc.) and 1D channel networks, all in one single mesh. It combines proven technology from the hydrodynamic engines of Delft3D 4 and SOBEK 2 and adds flexible administration, resulting in:

  • Easier 1D-2D-3D model coupling, intuitive setup of boundary conditions and meteorological forcings (amongst others).
  • More flexible 2D gridding in delta regions, river junctions, harbours, intertidal flats and more.
  • High performance by smart use of multicore architectures, and grid computing clusters.
An overview of the current developments can be found here.

The D-Flow FM - team would be delighted if you would participate in discussions on the generation of meshes, the specification of boundary conditions, the running of computations, and all kinds of other relevant topics. Feel free to share your smart questions and/or brilliant solutions!

Problem of Exporting to TecPlot File in QuickPlot

Youngling Posts: 16 Join Date: 4/30/11 Recent Posts
Hello, Sir.

I'd like to export to TecPlot file from Delft3D output file in QuickPlot, and draw same format of plot with the simulation result of EFDC Explorer.

The PLT file is able to write, but the figure is wrong when I open the file in TecPlot.

It seems to converge on 1 points(may be origin?).

Is there anybody solved this problem?

Kind Regards,

Hello to everyone,

I am facing the same problem as Byongjun to export to Tecplot any variable from QuickPlot. Have there been any improvement since this post ?
It would be really helpful to have this feature correctly running since Tecplot although being commercial is quite good at producing nice pictures.

Or maybe, Is there an Add-On for Tecplot to allow to import Delft3D output files?

Thank you.

Best regards,

Gonzalo

Dear Gonzales, Byongjun,

Besides the coordinates and data variables, QuickPlot also writes a flag "Active" to the Tecplot data file.
You can use Tecplot masking feature to clip away the points that mess up the figure.
(Alternatively you can use that same feature to clip points where the x value is 0, but that may give problems when you have also points on x=0 that you want to keep.)

Best regards,

Dear Bert,

Thank you for your response, very useful!

Indeed the domain needs to be clipped to have the expected plot. I managed to do that by creating a subzone (Data > Extract > Sub-zone). Then all the external boundaries (min and max values of i,j,k) need to be left outside of the new domain and that's it!

Best regards!

Hi, Jedi, can you explain it more detailed?

I use the blank, and the creat subzone, neither of them worked. my case is a 3D case.  Thanks very much.
