intro story D-Flow FM

D-Flow Flexible Mesh

D-Flow Flexible Mesh (D-Flow FM) is the new software engine for hydrodynamical simulations on unstructured grids in 1D-2D-3D. Together with the familiar curvilinear meshes from Delft3D 4, the unstructured grid can consist of triangles, pentagons (etc.) and 1D channel networks, all in one single mesh. It combines proven technology from the hydrodynamic engines of Delft3D 4 and SOBEK 2 and adds flexible administration, resulting in:

  • Easier 1D-2D-3D model coupling, intuitive setup of boundary conditions and meteorological forcings (amongst others).
  • More flexible 2D gridding in delta regions, river junctions, harbours, intertidal flats and more.
  • High performance by smart use of multicore architectures, and grid computing clusters.
An overview of the current developments can be found here.

The D-Flow FM - team would be delighted if you would participate in discussions on the generation of meshes, the specification of boundary conditions, the running of computations, and all kinds of other relevant topics. Feel free to share your smart questions and/or brilliant solutions!

Compile error on Linux

Dear all,
I am trying to compile Delft3D on Ubuntu Linux. It seems that I have all the prerequisites, but when I run the ./autogen.sh I got this error message:

Preparing the Delft3D build system...please wait

Found GNU Autoconf version 2.67
Found GNU Automake version 1.11.1
Found GNU Libtool version 2.2.6b

Automatically preparing build ... Warning: autoreconf failed
Attempting to run the preparation steps individually

Preparing build ... ERROR: aclocal failed

Anyone has some idea about this error?

Hi there!

Admittedly this is not a qualified answer but maybe it helps make some steps ahead.

As a tip for an expert going in debugging mode, I could only see that your error is thrown at lines 1278-1283 of autogen.sh -- I don't have an intimate knowledge of the code to move on from this.

I understood though that aclocal is a part of the program automake. I did not encounter your bug while using later revisions than yours, namely Autoconf 2.68 and Automake 1.11.3. I also have a Ubuntu distribution.

A try may be worth the bother: please upgrade these packages and see if you still bump in the same glitch. At the very least no harm is done and we cross out a suspect off the list.

Hope this helps and happy to hear of integrations!
