intro story D-Flow FM

D-Flow Flexible Mesh

D-Flow Flexible Mesh (D-Flow FM) is the new software engine for hydrodynamical simulations on unstructured grids in 1D-2D-3D. Together with the familiar curvilinear meshes from Delft3D 4, the unstructured grid can consist of triangles, pentagons (etc.) and 1D channel networks, all in one single mesh. It combines proven technology from the hydrodynamic engines of Delft3D 4 and SOBEK 2 and adds flexible administration, resulting in:

  • Easier 1D-2D-3D model coupling, intuitive setup of boundary conditions and meteorological forcings (amongst others).
  • More flexible 2D gridding in delta regions, river junctions, harbours, intertidal flats and more.
  • High performance by smart use of multicore architectures, and grid computing clusters.
An overview of the current developments can be found here.

The D-Flow FM - team would be delighted if you would participate in discussions on the generation of meshes, the specification of boundary conditions, the running of computations, and all kinds of other relevant topics. Feel free to share your smart questions and/or brilliant solutions!

DElft3D installation in windows 8.1

Hello!

I am trying to install delft3d GUI version 4.01.00.rc.07 on my windows 8.1. The source code was compiled from tag 2703. I'm experiencing an error as I start flow simulation.

Is delft3d implemented in windows 8.1 already? The screenshot of error is shown below. Can this be solved by compiling the latest tag version (3008)?

Regards,

Krichi Cabacaba

Hi Krichi,

This is a known bug and will be solved in the next release (4.01.00.rc.10 and higher).

This problem is related to the GUI. I expect that running a calculation using a batch file (without using the GUI) is possible on Windows 8.

Regards,

Adri

Thanks for the quick reply.

I am relatively a beginner to delft3d. Would it be possible for me to get guidelines on how to run delft3d on windows 8 using batch file?

Thank you very much!

Krichi

Hi Krichi,

When you download the source code, a few example runs are included. After compiling the release version, the examples should run, by executing the related batch run scripts. See the source code site.

Hi Adri!

I tried to run a simulation using batch file (run_flow2d3d.bat). But I encountered the error below.

How can I resolve this problem? Do I need to recompile the source code?I'm using the source code from tag2703. Is this resolved in the current tags?
