intro story D-Flow FM

D-Flow Flexible Mesh

D-Flow Flexible Mesh (D-Flow FM) is the new software engine for hydrodynamical simulations on unstructured grids in 1D-2D-3D. Together with the familiar curvilinear meshes from Delft3D 4, the unstructured grid can consist of triangles, pentagons (etc.) and 1D channel networks, all in one single mesh. It combines proven technology from the hydrodynamic engines of Delft3D 4 and SOBEK 2 and adds flexible administration, resulting in:

  • Easier 1D-2D-3D model coupling, intuitive setup of boundary conditions and meteorological forcings (amongst others).
  • More flexible 2D gridding in delta regions, river junctions, harbours, intertidal flats and more.
  • High performance by smart use of multicore architectures, and grid computing clusters.
An overview of the current developments can be found here.

The D-Flow FM - team would be delighted if you would participate in discussions on the generation of meshes, the specification of boundary conditions, the running of computations, and all kinds of other relevant topics. Feel free to share your smart questions and/or brilliant solutions!

Some folders are missing after compiling

Dear all,

I'm trying to compile 5.00.08.1855 using VS2010 and IF12.1 on Windows 7 64bit, and having problems.
When I compiled, I got one error at first (see attachment).
Without having done anything to solve this, I tried a second compiling and then got no error.
However, there are only 4 folders below created in /bin/win32/, and "menu", "waq", and some other folders don't exist.

- flow2d3d
- swan
- util
- wave

Did the compiling go well? Or is there some issues in the process?

Thank you in advance.
Best regards,

Kazuhiro TSUBONO

Hi Kazuhiro Tsubono,

Windows 64bit is not fully supported yet. I don't expect that older versions will compile in 64bit mode. But the latest tagged version (currently https://svn.oss.deltares.nl/repos/delft3d/tags/3185/) should compile in 64bit mode.

That's all you get when compiling that version. WAQ is added in revision 2367. The GUIS are not open source.

Regards,

Adri

Hi Adri,

I tried compiling the version you suggested me, and it worked well.
Thank you very much.

Hi Adri,

I have a question regarding flow2d3d version compatible to Windows 64bit in compiling.
I have succeeded compiling the version downloaded from "https://svn.oss.deltares.nl/repos/delft3d/tags/3185/" as you suggested.

Is it also possible to compile other newer versions, such as 6.01.07.3574 or 6.01.06.3426 in Windows 64bit?

Thank you in advance.
Best regards,

Hi Kazuhiro,

Yes, all recent versions should compile in 64-bit mode, although the Windows version is not tested.

Regards,

Adri
