intro story D-Flow FM

D-Flow Flexible Mesh

D-Flow Flexible Mesh (D-Flow FM) is the new software engine for hydrodynamical simulations on unstructured grids in 1D-2D-3D. Together with the familiar curvilinear meshes from Delft3D 4, the unstructured grid can consist of triangles, pentagons (etc.) and 1D channel networks, all in one single mesh. It combines proven technology from the hydrodynamic engines of Delft3D 4 and SOBEK 2 and adds flexible administration, resulting in:

  • Easier 1D-2D-3D model coupling, intuitive setup of boundary conditions and meteorological forcings (amongst others).
  • More flexible 2D gridding in delta regions, river junctions, harbours, intertidal flats and more.
  • High performance by smart use of multicore architectures, and grid computing clusters.
An overview of the current developments can be found here.

The D-Flow FM - team would be delighted if you would participate in discussions on the generation of meshes, the specification of boundary conditions, the running of computations, and all kinds of other relevant topics. Feel free to share your smart questions and/or brilliant solutions!

make error because of permission trouble

Hi,
I am trying to build delwaq 5.01.00.2163 on CentOS using build.sh
i have an error early during the make and here what I have in the make.log:

/usr/bin/install -c -d ../../../../../third_party_open/version_number/bin/linux
/usr/bin/install -c ../../../../../third_party_open/version_number/packages/version_number/src/version_number.exe ../../../../../third_party_open/version_number/bin/linux
/usr/bin/install: cannot create regular file `../../../../../third_party_open/version_number/bin/linux/version_number.exe': Disk quota exceeded

There is no quota trouble. I check.
I find a way to succeed manually adding --mode=2775 to the install command:
/usr/bin/install -c -d --mode=2775 third_party_open/version_number/bin/linux
Then I can create any file in the directory.

But since Makefile are automaticcally created, I can't find a way to had "--mode=2775" otpion to line 65 "mkinstalldirs = $(install_sh) -d".

Is there any template of the Makefile? How is it created?
Thanks for the Help

Dear Benoit,

Please use the latest tagged version, currently https://svn.oss.deltares.nl/repos/delft3d/tags/3185/
Revision 2163 does not contain the WAQ source code. The error you get is solved in the newer revision.

Adri

Hi Adri,
Thank you for your time.
I've downloaded tag 3185.
But now, it fails during the autogen! (see autogen.log attached).
I don't understand cause this part was not a trouble previously with revision 2163.
I did exactly the same things. Well I think so!

Regards,
Benoît

Hi,
I solved the problem by adding in autogen.sh
ACLOCAL_OPTIONS="-I $ight_directory/libtool-2.4.2/share/aclocal"

Now, I still have my problem with permissions.
I did separate build.sh in 2 parts. And when configure is done, I add --mode=2775 in config.status :
INSTALL='/usr/bin/install -c --mode=2775'
Then I can run the "make".

Hi Benoit,

The permission problem seems to be related to your local system. For example when your administrator has forbidden writing to a certain directory and you do not have administrator rights. You can check by just adding a file in the directory where you are going to put results. Other things you can try:
  • Talk with your system administrator about your problem or ask him to build the software. Is he having the same problem?
  • Ask a colleague to build the software. Is he having the same problem?
  • Try another location to build. Normally /tmp is a scratch disk where everybody has write permission
  • Check your environmental settings for strange things

Regards,

Adri
