intro story D-Flow FM

D-Flow Flexible Mesh

D-Flow Flexible Mesh (D-Flow FM) is the new software engine for hydrodynamical simulations on unstructured grids in 1D-2D-3D. Together with the familiar curvilinear meshes from Delft3D 4, the unstructured grid can consist of triangles, pentagons (etc.) and 1D channel networks, all in one single mesh. It combines proven technology from the hydrodynamic engines of Delft3D 4 and SOBEK 2 and adds flexible administration, resulting in:

  • Easier 1D-2D-3D model coupling, intuitive setup of boundary conditions and meteorological forcings (amongst others).
  • More flexible 2D gridding in delta regions, river junctions, harbours, intertidal flats and more.
  • High performance by smart use of multicore architectures, and grid computing clusters.
An overview of the current developments can be found here.
The D-Flow FM - team would be delighted if you would participate in discussions on the generation of meshes, the specification of boundary conditions, the running of computations, and all kinds of other relevant topics. Feel free to share your smart questions and/or brilliant solutions!

We have launched a new website (still under construction so expect continuous improvements) and a new forum dedicated to Delft3D Flexible Mesh.

Good Afternoon:

I´m working with Mac Computer under Windows 7 partition. I have another antique version of a MCR v72 because another software works with it so that when I´m trying to install DELFT3D according with the instructions, when I´m trying to install the archive MCR_R2013b_WIN32_INSTALLER.EXE it unzip but it starts to install, shows error and it never end installed. Could it be the reason that I have installed this antique version v72?. How could I solve ir because I need to have both installed at the same time.

Thanks for your cooperation.

PD: I have installed Visual Studio 2010 too and Fortran 2008 for compelling the code.

Hi Alejandro,

Usually the MCR installation works fine, but someone else also mentioned that she wasn't able to install the R2013b 32bit version. Unfortunately, we weren't able to reproduce or solve that problem from a distance. I don't have MCR runtime v72 installed, but I do have v711, v717 and v82 (=R2013b) in 32bit and the latter two also in 64bit mode installed side by side on my own Windows 7 machine.

Which edition of Windows 7 have you installed? You can find this information via "Control Panel" -> "System and Security" -> "System".
What error message did you get exactly?

Best regards,
