intro story D-Flow FM

D-Flow Flexible Mesh

D-Flow Flexible Mesh (D-Flow FM) is the new software engine for hydrodynamical simulations on unstructured grids in 1D-2D-3D. Together with the familiar curvilinear meshes from Delft3D 4, the unstructured grid can consist of triangles, pentagons (etc.) and 1D channel networks, all in one single mesh. It combines proven technology from the hydrodynamic engines of Delft3D 4 and SOBEK 2 and adds flexible administration, resulting in:

  • Easier 1D-2D-3D model coupling, intuitive setup of boundary conditions and meteorological forcings (amongst others).
  • More flexible 2D gridding in delta regions, river junctions, harbours, intertidal flats and more.
  • High performance by smart use of multicore architectures, and grid computing clusters.
An overview of the current developments can be found here.

The D-Flow FM - team would be delighted if you would participate in discussions on the generation of meshes, the specification of boundary conditions, the running of computations, and all kinds of other relevant topics. Feel free to share your smart questions and/or brilliant solutions!

Hallo,

i have a problem when i want to start the simulation (Flow). I get the following error message:

Error in startup script

couldn't read file "C:/users /ilona/documents/delft3d/4.01.00.rc9/delft3d/win32/menu/bin/create_config_xmlt.tcl": no
such file or directory
while executing
"source[file join $env(D3D_HOME)$env(ARCH) menu bin create_config_xmlt.tcl"
(file "C:\user\...\4.01.00rc9\delft3d\/win32menu/bin/hyd_online.tcl"

Does anyone know how i can solve the problem?

Thank you in advance.

dear Ilona,

what kind of setting you have? I assume you are running on Windows platform. So did you get the error from the GUI? or just running the bat files?

Qinghua

Yes, i use windows. I think just running the bat files. I only click on "start" and then the grey window opens with a exclamation mark.

Kind regards

Hello
I have the same problem, when i want to start the simulation (Flow), I get the following error message:

couldn't read file "C:/Deltares/delft3d/4.01.00.rc7/delft3d/win32/menu/bin/create_config_xmlt.tcl": no

"source[file join $env(D3D_HOME)$env(ARCH) menu bin create_config_xmlt.tcl"
(file "C:\user\...\4.01.00rc7\delft3d\/win32menu/bin/hyd_online.tcl") line20

I use windows 7 and only click on the "start" button and the message window appear!

how i can solve the problem?

Hi all,

I have copy all files on "myCode/bin/win64" directory to "myDelft3D/win32" but the problem isn't solved.
My error said:
couldn't execute "D:\TESIS\deflt_gui\win32\flow2d3d\bin\d_hydro.exe":
invaIid argument while executing
"open "|$command" "r""
(procedure "runcmd1" line 5)
invoked from within
"runcmd1 "\"$hydroexe\" $cfg_flow" flow"
invoked from within
"if { $d_hydro }{
runcmd1 "\"$hydroexe\" $cfg_flow" flow"
}"
(file "D:\TESIS\deflt_gui\/win32/menu/bin/hyd_online.tcl" line 830)

How to solve this?

Also is it a problem if my compiling result 9 skipped but no errors and warnings?

Thank you for respond.

Hi Dwi,

If the compilation ends without errors, it's ok.

Just to be sure: you are able to run the example computations inside "myCode/examples", using the prepared scripts in there, right?

About your problem:
Please double check that the file "D:\TESIS\deflt_gui\win32\flow2d3d\bin\d_hydro.exe" exists. It should be there after your copy action.

Looking at the message: The GUI tries to start d_hydro.exe and catch it's output to show in a separate window. It seems that d_hydro.exe cannot be started with "read" permission. Can you try to change the properties of d_hydro.exe, enabling read permission for everybody?

I'm curious if this helps; please report your findings here on the forum.

Thanks.

Hi Adri,

I have solve my problem.
I start again from downloading the GUI and palce it on C:/ as suggested in manual.
I can use delft3d with less problem.

Thank you for your help.

Sorry for very late reply.

Dwi
