D-Flow Flexible Mesh

D-Flow Flexible Mesh (D-Flow FM) is the new software engine for hydrodynamical simulations on unstructured grids in 1D-2D-3D. Together with the familiar curvilinear meshes from Delft3D 4, the unstructured grid can consist of triangles, pentagons (etc.) and 1D channel networks, all in one single mesh. It combines proven technology from the hydrodynamic engines of Delft3D 4 and SOBEK 2 and adds flexible administration, resulting in:

  • Easier 1D-2D-3D model coupling, intuitive setup of boundary conditions and meteorological forcings (amongst others).
  • More flexible 2D gridding in delta regions, river junctions, harbours, intertidal flats and more.
  • High performance by smart use of multicore architectures, and grid computing clusters.

The manual states: The Deltares staff supports the construction of these coupling programs for any mass conserving third party flow model.

We are having some difficulty and would like to know what kind of support we can obtain. Thanks.

Do you want to share the nature of the problems you run into on the forum? If are you looking for direct support, I think it is best to contact sales@deltaressystems.nl or support@deltaressystems.nl and ask for me, for an inquiry about support options.

From the title I guess that you are working with a coupling between Delwaq and UnTRIM. We are current in collaboration with BAW to develop and improve such a coupling, and recently made some changes to UnTRIM, the Delwaq user interface and Delwaq itself. We can update you on these changes, there might be a change that this can solve your problems as well.

Michel,

Thanks for your reply. Our goal is to be able to export a proper hydrodynamic file that can then be used in DELWAQ. We would prefer to run DELWAQ separately from an UnTRIM output file. We simply need to understand better the format and structure of the file DELWAQ requires.

This is described in chapter 11.2 of the Input FIle Description.

An example of how these files are written can be found in our Delft3D flow model. Although Delft3D flow works with structured grids it will give you some idea. The starting point to where the Delwaq hydraulogical data is written can be found here in our open source code: https://svn.oss.deltares.nl/repos/delft3d/trunk/src/engines_gpl/flow2d3d/packages/io/src/output/wrwaqfil.F90.
