intro story D-Flow FM

D-Flow Flexible Mesh

D-Flow Flexible Mesh (D-Flow FM) is the new software engine for hydrodynamical simulations on unstructured grids in 1D-2D-3D. Together with the familiar curvilinear meshes from Delft3D 4, the unstructured grid can consist of triangles, pentagons (etc.) and 1D channel networks, all in one single mesh. It combines proven technology from the hydrodynamic engines of Delft3D 4 and SOBEK 2 and adds flexible administration, resulting in:

  • Easier 1D-2D-3D model coupling, intuitive setup of boundary conditions and meteorological forcings (amongst others).
  • More flexible 2D gridding in delta regions, river junctions, harbours, intertidal flats and more.
  • High performance by smart use of multicore architectures, and grid computing clusters.
An overview of the current developments can be found here.

The D-Flow FM - team would be delighted if you would participate in discussions on the generation of meshes, the specification of boundary conditions, the running of computations, and all kinds of other relevant topics. Feel free to share your smart questions and/or brilliant solutions!

wavecon file error

Hi all,
I am wondering why I am getting the error below.
The format specified in the wave manual A.2.8.1 is shown here.

* Itdate Hs Tp Dir( ) ms wl windspeed wind dir.( )
BL01
3 8 * number of rows number of columns
0 0.01 1.0 270 10 0 0.0 270
60 1.00 7.0 270 4 1.26 10.0 270
240 0.01 10.0 270 10 0.70 5.0 270

What does the "BL01" represent, it is not explained in the manual.
Any help will be much appreciated.
Cheers,
Abdulla.

Hi Abdullah

Were you able to solve this? and how? Or anyone with ideas.

Hi Philip and Abdulla,

Wavecon file is in a so-called TEKAL file format.

BL01 is not a very meaningful value in your case. It means Boundary line 1. If you have more than one line in this file, it can be BL01, BL02...etc.

I was surprised to see Delft3D-Wave complained about it, in fact. Can you send me the complete input to have a look if it is still a problem?

Greetings,

Qinghua

Hi Qinghua

I encountered the exact same problem as Philip and Abdulla. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Hi guys,

If wavecon is used, we don't need to specify anything, but only the wavecon.runid.

So in the mdw, we don't need to set TseriesFile = sth. If you remove this line, it should work.

Greetings,

Qinghua
