D-Flow Flexible Mesh

D-Flow Flexible Mesh (D-Flow FM) is the new software engine for hydrodynamical simulations on unstructured grids in 1D-2D-3D. Together with the familiar curvilinear meshes from Delft3D 4, the unstructured grid can consist of triangles, pentagons (etc.) and 1D channel networks, all in one single mesh. It combines proven technology from the hydrodynamic engines of Delft3D 4 and SOBEK 2 and adds flexible administration, resulting in:

  • Easier 1D-2D-3D model coupling, intuitive setup of boundary conditions and meteorological forcings (amongst others).
  • More flexible 2D gridding in delta regions, river junctions, harbours, intertidal flats and more.
  • High performance by smart use of multicore architectures, and grid computing clusters.

Hi everyone,

I am a begginer Delft3d user, and was wondering if someone could help me. I have compiled the latest version ( in linux, following some of the recommendations posted here

as well as the information i could find on the oss website. Finnaly, I was able to compile it, but have found some problems running the test cases. For example, in the test case 01_standard, it will only run if I use the .xml configuration file along with corresponding run file and the d_hydro executable. If I try using the .ini configuration file and the deltares_hydro executable, nothing happens.

When I try running the 03_flow-wave example, I get the following:

- Delft3D
- Deltares, Delft3D-WAVE Version, Oct 19 2014, 23:45:41
- Open source
*** MESSAGE: Delft3D-WAVE runs online with Delft3D-FLOW
Waiting for initialisation from FLOW

and it simply gets stuck there and does nothing.

Has anyone else encountered this problem, and maybe could shed some light on this for me?

Hi Roberto,

Please use the latest tagged version, currently . This source code will produce an executable that uses the config.xml files as prepared in the examples inside the source code. The config.ini method is not supported anymore.

Your error message related to example 03_flow-wave indicates that FLOW has started and is waiting for communication with WAVE. It seems that WAVE did not start. What happens if you try to run WAVE stand alone in example 07_wave? Does the compilation of the source code report problems related to WAVE?
